I have the cash right now to buy either of the three. My PC still works, but its seriously starting to feel its age right. I can still pretty much run everything (AMD 64bit 4000 GForce 7600) on my pc, but I feel its time for a change. What would you choose, and why?

I'd go for one of the consoles depending on how much you LAN. Lately I've found LANs to be less about the gaming and more about the pillaging. Graphics are better if not as good as what you're used to now (if you're PC is starting to show it's age) and there's a much, MUCH wider selection of titles. My only negative point is I still want to see a mouse/keyboard...or atleast a mouse and a cursor pad.

If you're in to online gaming than maybe stick with the PC for now. Untill M$ South Africa get the local Live thing sorted out it still won't be as good as what the PC is now. More people online playing PC at the moment but that could(probably will) change.

PC games are cheaper(practically half price) but some console games are more fun.

I'll be getting myself an Xbox 360 in October/November with the price drop.

well it depends man your amd 4000+ coupled with a 4k 8800 card will run just as well if not better than your console

plus you can download and view porno easier on a pc :)

If you can afford the PS3 then you can get the 360 and probably still afford to better the specs of your PC.

Well the rumours are once again that we will get Live this year but don't hold your breath.

However even though Live is not officially supported here we do have a very large online community. You can find a game anyday you want online against South Africans.

At last count we had over 1000 South Africans online and if you have an unshaped account there are over 5 million Xbox 360's online at the moment..

Personally I gave up on the rat race of keeping my PC up to date and I have never looked back...

As far as prices of games go I just picked up 5 games for R700 in the last 2 weeks... Yes the brand new games come in at R499 but there are tons of bargains to be had as well....

Oh I don't recommend the PS3 at the moment. It is to expensive, has a small games catalogue and the controllers don't rumble. I will get a PS3 when the rumble is included and the price comes down...

I'll always go the PC route as a PC can do so much more. If you only play games and do nothing else on a PC then a console is the way to go - but then you must have a decent TV too (no use connecting a new gen console to a crappy TV). I do like bwana's advice though ... 360 + PC upgrade.

lol I unfortunately have a crappy TV still and it's still entertaining. What you can do though is connect a Xbox 360 to your PC monitor and then get HD gaming that way...

i still think a pc is the best option

the games are cheaper, the hardware is not that much more

i mean im sure ppl have bought ps1 2 3 thats basically 3 computer upgrades if you think about it

The first PS came out in 1994, and there is a new model ever 6 years by the look of it. If you bought 1, 2, and 3 you'd have been covered for 18 years.

How many upgrades to your PC have you done in that same period?

He's already got a PC, I'm pretty sure it's capable of doing all the things a PC needs to do these days. What burns me about PC gaming is the costs of hardware and depreciation. To replace just the graphics card is going to cost the same as a console let alone the rest of the components.

Same argument could be made for "Classic" PC games. They sell for less than R100 each. I must admit tho it takes longer for PC games to reach "Classic" status than what it takes console games.
