So the 1st option that jumps to mind - is the toy right - the I-Phone!
But are these puppies in the country?
Are they unlocked here?
Whats up with the firmware, etc?
Using the "Search" option on the forum brings up threads dated to October.
So hopefully there is some new light to be shed on this specific phone.

Then HTC Touch perhaps?
I-mates, I just don't like the look of the bastards. :p

Blackberry Pearl perhaps?

I dunno

My needs you ask?
Voice calls
SMS
E-mail (to be able access my Gmail and Cybersmart acc's)
Web Browsing (Minimal)
MMS not really a need. Niether a camera.
Media player is a big yes for me - love my music on the go - and I don't want another I-Pod Shuffle :p

Currently I have the Sony Erricson W900i, which with its 512mb on board is quite ample for my needs for storing music.
Surfing, though even with Opera is a biatch - though my need for surfing is minimal.

I was actually looking at the W950i, but can't get my grubby paws on it.
Also I think its a bit outdated now
Gotta keep up with the Jones' :p

So what would you guys recommend?
TIA.

HTC TyTn II

Thats my suggestion. AFAIK a lot of the I Phone features are network dependant and not supported well outside the US.

I wander if you get waterproof covers for it :p

LoL :D

I don't think I'd ever want to find out if I did get it boet!
So that would mean leaving it in the car if I ever made it round to V3G's place again :p :D

if youre looking for a music orientated phone I wouldn't suggest getting an HTC Touch, it only supports up to 2gb of removable memmory. And the standard media player(s) just dont look as flashy as the new ones Sony Ericsson have on their new walkman phones.

You can relatively easily get an iPhone in this country from some random dealer, do a Google search to find out.

I'd go for the Tytn 2 even though I have an iPhone. They probably will cost a similar amount but the difference is simply style vs substance. The iPhone is pretty but lacks some important abilities.

On second thought, what about a Nokia E90. The Nokia S60 operating system is really nice.

iphone best "gadget" ever invented.... what i CAN do it does well, awesome email, awesome internet, best in the business, but what nails me are the silly little things it cant do, like forward an sms, send a contact, no mms, no notification from service provider that you have voicemail, (.... you have 19 new voicemail messages... wt#)

Whats the difference between the HTC TyTn II and the HTC Touch?
Epic...

HTC TyTN II has GPS, 3G HSDPA, slide out qwerty keyboard, twice the RAM and ROM of the HTC Touch, 400mhz Processor, supports the new micro SD cards with more memmory. It costs about R2000 more than the Touch (I think, I'm too lazy to go compare prices).

The HTC Touch has TouchFlo which makes windows mobile easier to use and is about as small as a Motorola RaZR. no 3G/HSDPA, it uses EDGE, no GPS, no slide out keyboard. You could get the Touch Dual, which costs about the same as the TyTN II and has the same specs, except no WiFi and no GPS...

But I would suggest using the phones first, Windows Mobile isn't for everyone...

You know that about any midrange phone fulfills the requirements set by Shake&Bake. If you want PDA - type phone take a look at the Motorola E6 - it has very good features for the price (~R3000 from eXactmall). There is also an active development community 'cause it is Linux based. I considered it but went with a 6110 Navi cause the E6 needs to be imported. The E6 is very cool though IMO

kk checked the youtube - the embedded version was not working so just googled it :p

But tyvm - very informative and certainly I feel a hook stuck in my mouth for the TyTn II.
As for the Motorola, I have to say that I've hated the software interfaces from the brand since the 1st Razr phones.
But thats just my opinon ;)

Now where can I get my hands on this puppy?
Will have a look at eXactmall ;)

apparently mtn are running a special on the procall 120 where the cost of the phone is included over 24 months and comes to R100 extra per month... so R385 as opposed to R285..

Nah I'm gonna be moving away from contracts - if I confirm my trip to the UK next year - I don't wanna be tied into yet another piece of paper ;)
