People want e-tolls to be scrapped - How we got here

The Gauteng government recently said it is confident that e-tolls will soon be no more.

“I have been assured by President Cyril Ramaphosa that a lasting solution has been found and an announcement by the President is imminent,” Gauteng Premier David Makhura said.

Gauteng roads and transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo agreed, saying he is expecting a ground-breaking announcement to be made regarding e-tolls.

The Gauteng government said it was confident that e-tolls were on their way out, and expected a major announcement from President Ramaphosa soon.
Now where have I heard that before - A groot huge major announcement from Ramaphartface.

Oh yes, this just before the corrupt few had a great time with the COVID feeding frenzy and we inherited an illicit alcohol and tobacco industry .......

F'king clown.

How many times have they "talked" about e-tolls? More than 3-5 times... And it still there ....

Even if e-tolls are scrapped there is absolutely nothing to be happy about as it simply means increased taxes elsewhere to cover it.

At this stage it is just a few people paying etolls.

The alternative will be to increase feul levi then you are going to hear how everyone is screaming.
The R250 cap a month on E-tolli will be a drop in the bucket if they increase the fuel levy with 20 - 50c a litre.

It comes down to that you have to be careful what you wish for.

In the first place we should not have had Etolli to start with but the Anc saw an opportunity to loot funds and let the tax payer pay more for something that was already in the levi.

So if they are going to scrap it, then we need to buckle up as there will be a shortage of vaseline

They should just install solar panels on top of all the e toll bridges and put electricity back into the grid, maybe they can recoup their investment in a couple of hundred years

they can increase the fuel levy, but only after we know why this freeway project was the most expensive in the world, prosecute the culprits that price gouged the crap out of it, recoup the money, revalue the project to sensible numbers then work out the fuel levy on that. us peasants want to see heads roll.

those solar panels will be the most expensive in the world as long as the same culprits are in charge.

Thanks for everyone getting in on this.

Now the fuel levy can be increased and those not even using the highways can also pay for this.

the people have scrapped e-tolls long ago.
Zactly, like Biko said, it has been no more from the 3rd of Dec 2013 & the only peeps still obsessing about e-tolls are those who haven't freed their puny little minds from the oppression of the whole corrupt scheme executed by the ****ing skelm ANC.

There must be some other corrupt scheme like Ramapoepol's son wants to steal another R500mil or something that they want to distract us from, that they bring this up now.

nevermind the fact that they just upgraded an existing road with 1 lane, then tolled the whole road. afaik, they can only toll a new road where there is an alternative route.
