Im pretty shocked at how bad taking "sick days" are in public health. Now that my wife is working full time in public health I am absolutely dismayed at how so many people take advantage of public health. Literally every day some or other issue happens because someone is not working. The driver that takes my wife from one hospital to another has been sick four times in the last 3 months and often a week at a time.
I know a pharmacist who took 6 months leave because she was feeling emotionally unwell. This is fully paid leave and she gets all her bonuses. She generally takes 1 to 3 days off sick every week.
I have also learnt, this is not a black white issue (sorry Afro-pessimists), the pharmacist I am referring to is a white Afrikaans girl (the irony is when I hear her complain about how bad the ANC is). People are seriously abusing the public health care system here in the Eastern Cape. Our money is being wasted away by people too lazy to work
