Since my connection at home has gone from slightly sucky to majorly sucky, I decided to do a bit of comparison. I work in Midrand, so I tried to connect from my office...no go. The Allandale tower is too far and the Samrand tower doesn't seem to exist[
]
So I mounted the modem on my dashboard and drove towards Allandale, picked up quite good signal (3 lights) at New Road. Drove towards Boulders shopping centre and got 4 lights. (19% signal, SNL-9) Parked and tested: 90kbps. pings generally below 150ms, lost packets about 4%. (All this on Tower 36)
In short: a lot better than what I'm getting at home.
Is this just a lucky co-incidence, or do I just connect to a sh*tty tower at home?
I'm going to do this a bit more...in the next few weeks I have to go to:
1. Fourways/Lonehill
2. Rosebank
3. Bedfordview
4. Edenvale
5. Melville
6. Cape Town - City Bowl and Bellville
7. Durban - Umhlanga, Springfield, uShaka
8. Kimberley...do they have MyWireloss? No? Lucky b#rstards.
I'll check each area and report back.
