The following fuel price changes have been predicted by the AA:

  • Petrol – R1.18 per litre increase
  • Diesel – 22 cents per litre increase
  • Illuminating paraffin – 41 cents per litre increase
The holiday is over...

This increase gives them no more taxes, in fact government likes it when the petrol price goes down (except now that no one is buying due to lockdown), because generally we buy more of it and they make more taxes. When it goes up we buy the minimum for our required travel and cut away "unnecessary" travel and they get less tax. The fuel companies themselves are the ones that make more money.

Now you know and won't make the same mistake of thinking that any petrol price increases (except 1 Apr tax increases) makes government more money (except in a very roundabout way like maybe tax on petrol companies income or income tax on the employees of those companies bonuses and increases).

While the corrupt regime doesn't benefit in any revenue increase in the petrol price increase, it benefits in the increase of the vat value for paraffin and lpg. I think there is also vat on aviation fuel.
