Consider yourself lucky if you manage to sell computer hardware 2 years after purchase with a 50% markdown.

Like I said, I am open to offers. Also bear in mind, being quite a niche product, it won't depreciate as quickly as a mainstream product. But, point duly taken.

It is not a standard, run of the mill CRT monitor. It is a professional oriented monitor; very high res; very good color rendition; sRGB inputs etc. It is the same way that you can pickup a 19" LCD for R2,000 nowadays, but people will still pay R10,000 for something like a LaCie professional 19" LCD.

Hope you enjoy your monitor ;)

I'm keen enough to be thinking about being irresponsible with the budget but I've got a lead on a few 19" (black) Dell P992 and M991 CRTs at prices where I could get two of these for the price of this single Philips unit. Looking at it objectively it makes sense to go for the P992 as it'll come with 6 month warranty too!

If anyone's interested, I can be PM'd ..or my email address is on my profile too; but I expect these to go before the week is out, so it's 'move now or wait for this Philips' ;)

I don't understand the point of hijacking threads, especially when the products in question are so vastly different. Those Dells are good, yes, but about as good as the regular flat-screen CRT you can get anywhere. Granted they may be a good price, but if you wanna flog them do so in another thread please.

You cannot compare the Philips to these consumer-oriented monitors in any way whatsoever - color, resolution, contrast, refresh rate, tube technology etc. So go ahead and get the Dell's to write emails and surf the web etc. but the Philips is not aimed at those in any case (though it does a fine job at it); but at professional video/photo editors, graphic designers, CAD designers etc (hence the thread title "Professional CRT").

I think you are going to have a tough time selling this monitor for that price. I am a designer/photographer and get the point of a pro screen but trying to sell it second hand is tough.

I am working on an LG F900B which can do the following.
1280x1024 @ 85hz
1600x1200 @ 75hz
1920x1200 @ 75hz
2048x1536 @ 60Hz

That gets pretty close to what the phillips will do. Now I have seen that screen in action and there is a difference but not enough to warrant the second hand premium.

I feel your pain in losing more money than you would like but finding someone who will buy this screen for that price is going to be hard.

I tried to sell an item for half its price a while back and had to drop it a lot to finally find a buyer. :(

EDIT - What screen are you replacing it with?

I usually give my old stuff to friends and family.
There's no real buyers market and it just takes up space. Give it away and experience a sense of well being :D

Angellus - I normally run mine at 1600x1200 at 90Hz. Can do 100Hz IIRC at that res. It is a lot better than any other monitor I have tried (which is why I bought it) and in particular when run with the sRGB inputs for proper color matching.

Replacing with either an Iiyama 22" or NEC Multisync 22" (if I can get hold of one).

Guys, unless you've used a high quality CRT....you would think this is a rip-off. Compare this CRT to your normal 'run-of-the-mill' versions, and you will see a HUGE difference.

My brother had the Sony 19" CRT, and I had a 'standard' 19" and when you put them side by side, the colour, clarity, and vibrancy of the Sony made my screen look pathetic.

The Phillips being sold is just as good, running high refresh rates, at high res. Go check this CRT out, it wont disappoint.

On the bad side....its big and weighs a lot - so you wont want to LAN with it

Damn those are some nice 22" monitors :)

Just remember trying to sell them will also be a pain :(

I was actually considering buying your screen when I first saw it on Cartoday but decided against it. Saving up for a 24" LCD :)

From what I have seen my F900B LG does pretty well.

BTW how exactly does the sRGB input work?
