This just shows what a scam it is. I phoned a friend who works at Vodacom, the outstanding amount for the repair is under R180. So, from when they phoned me and quoted R2400 which I refused, till now... The wafer damage suddenly became less.

Same story Rapid.
Four years ago the very same story.
It was still a Nokia N71.
Quote 2400. Unfortunately liquid damage.
I found an independent repair company.
Was fixed for R160.00.
The worst was one of the Top Managers of Vodascum was a golfing friend of mine.
It is policy, finish and klaar. A huge claim will not be honoured.
You are going to waste your time in court. They will fight you.

Not fighting the repair, I'm fighting that I didn't approve it, they'll have to prove I did.

Completely shocked - I got a call this morning after complaining via hellopeter and twitter.

The phone hasn't been repaired, and I have multiple SMS's as it went through the process - its been a month, it had to go to the advanced repair center in Johannesburg - they called me last week to pick it up, and wouldn't release it unless I paid for the repair.

This morning the store called, the phone hasn't even been repaired, and they need to send it back to Johannesburg, and I must wait once again for them to assess and repair it.

Imagine I paid last week, went home, and the phone wouldn't turn on?

Response from Vodacom: "Ya, sorry, miscommunication - there's nothing they can do - I'll have to wait, but they'll mark it as urgent" <-- yet its still going to take the same time.

Screw that, my contract is up in October - Goodbye Vodacom.

I had an iPhone issue last week where I could not connect to a carrier, restoring failed. Sent to MTN, replaced it within a week. Great service.

And still no phone and no feedback from Vodacom, anyone know if it's possible to get out of a contract. Basically paying for a device I haven't had for almost 7 weeks

Document all the events, contact the Samsung Smart Care centre. Let them intervene. If they are unable to help, contact the Samsung Africa Headquarter in Bryanston.

Thing is. The phone isn't with Samsung. It's only been with Vodacom, and it's Vodacom who are messing me around. The store says the phone is being repaired. Head office says it's being replaced. Neither have returned the a phone.

Therefor the requirement to document your experience thus far and approach Samsung.

Vodacom is very well known for denying repairs under warranty due to water damage. Been like that for many many years.

I've always wondered if there is any other reason that they use?

It seems water damage is the de facto excuse. I rememeber as a kid I sold my phone - that I bought brand new and looked after like gold - to my neighbour. When the battery on this phone totally dead and it was plugged in, it would take a few minutes to register and turn back on. That's how they all were.

So my neighbour runs the phone flat, plugs in the charger and nothing immediate happens - so he thinks I sold a dud phone to him. He takes it to the store 'water damage' and returns a pretty much brand new phone. The phone hadn't even seen water ever!

To this day he probably thinks I'm dodge :(

Anyone - sold the phone on and no isses, though had to sell it cheaper now because he'd thrown away the box, manuals etc

I've decided I'm giving it one more week, then I'm away for a week... And when I return it will be well over two months. I'll be going the small claims route, tired of dealing with companies that have such **** service.

And the phone has finally been returned to me - it seems to be in working order :) I'm not sure whether its the same phone, or a refurbished phone, not that it matters - it works.

Just in time to...

No... Just a crap load of time wasted, and frustration with various people not responding, not providing feedback, etc.
