South Africa's stand at EXPO2020 Dubai — judge for yourself

Many people criticise South Africa’s stand at Expo 2020 in Dubai, but the government claims it is an excellent showcase of the country’s value proposition.

Expo 2020 is a world expo hosted by Dubai from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022, with nations and organisations investing in “pavilions” to promote themselves.

But seriously, how does this differentiate South Africa from the rest of the world?

Like, yeah, we can make food.. I F'ing better hope you can at least manufacture food.

They should have saved half the money and outsourced this to a marketing firm and done a proper job..

Wonder which fat-cats travelled business class and enjoyed a Dubai style shopping spree?

I feel like better decisions could have been made here. Most of these products while made in South Africa are owned by US companies or otherwise. It's as if government thought that the biggest strength of South Africa's economy is some agriculture, bottling and basket weaving and such. I mean come on...

Where are the manufacturing examples, the pharmaceutical sector that is leading in Africa? What to grow that sector, then show that you have a bit of experience?

This, all it says is that SA can produce consumer goods as if every other county in the world doesn't do that already? I mean what good does a bottle of All Gold Tomato sauce on a shelf do to sell our country as a brand if people can't even sample it?
