Beg the child to please please listen and behave.
No you need to socially exclude them, so ignore them and remove any objects from the area that can be harmful or give them joy until they behave.

So just lock them in a closet for a few hours if they are misbehaving

This law is long overdue.
Resorting to violence to discipline your child tells them, not only that violence against them is justified, but also that violence is an acceptable solution to their problems. After all, if you, their primary role-models and caregivers, get to choose violence as your goto behavior, why shouldn't they?
If you cannot find another way, then you should look for help to find a way; escalating loss of privileges, namely, access to phones, TVs, tablets and PCs, toys, books, friends, for a specific period of time corresponding to the severity of their misbehavior is a ready alternative. Kids get bored very quickly, no matter how much of a 'loner' they are, and if you persevere in this approach you will be doing yourself, them, and our society a favour.
I heartily recommend the considered loss of privileges over a casual slap or beating. It could keep you out of jail.

Yeah. Quick thump and more time for you to chill by the braai, huh.
Like no bru.
But clearly you think the naughty corner is a solution and would probably explain a lot of your kids turned out like idiots

It is NOT violence...it is a physical punishment as opposed to psychological punishment. IMHO violence is classified as intent to do grievous bodily harm out of anger/desperation/frustration.

Yeah. Agreed. What a fag. Claiming a hiding is assault basically. And of course all kids are the same. Right?

Good luck with that argument in court. The arguments for and against have been heard, and the law against corporal punishment is a fact.
And LOL at a hiding not being violence or physical assault. Again, good luck at making the argument in court.

The article discusses physical discipline, abuse has always been illegal.

Some people fail to see the difference. They believe physical discipline is an enraged uncontrolled act.

These people should probably not have children at all in my opinion because they themselves probably get frustrated and enraged with their kids in order to draw that similarity.
