Pick n Pay grocery deliveries launch on Takealot’s Mr D app

Pick n Pay and Takealot Group have started testing grocery deliveries in the Mr D app, the companies announced on Tuesday.

They are piloting the PnP Groceries on Mr D service in specific areas in Cape Town and Johannesburg and intend to rapidly expand to 300 stores nationwide by December 2022.

And what is their delivery fee?
Checkers charge R35.00 and deliver within 40-45 minutes!
Mr D deliveries are usually R30.

also, not everyone gets great delivery times. our average is usually 3 hours.

seen the coming soon tab on the app,
bit of a lateral move as dont PNP have ASAP and their own drivers?

yes, a bit confusing. But I know its not been great for Pnp.. they tried it first as "Bottles" and then relaunched as "ASAP".
Neither made any waves, I wonder if this is a third attempt ?
Perhaps they are looking to push the envelope on amount of items to deliver...

One thing I noticed is that the drivers are all independent, we had a MrD branded bike drop off our 60/60 order. So they can pick and choose.

Bottles used to be its own thing where you could order alcohol and get it delivered within the hour or so. PnP then bought them and somewhere along the line, re-branded it to ASAP.

I'm not sure what the benefit is for PnP to use Mr D which sometimes already seems to be stretched thin with takeaways and takealot deliveries already.

“This new dedicated grocery shopping experience with Pick n Pay through the Mr D app allows customers to shop over 10,000 food and grocery products — at the same price as in-store — for delivery in an hour,” said Mr D CEO Alexander Wörz.
Same price? IWBIWISI.

Wouldn’t MR D add a markup on all PnP stuff and make it even more expensive than just using ASAP?

More twits with with zero road sense on scooters is what we need.

I love it when they come zooming out of no where against the flow of traffic and almost knock you down, true gentleman.

Also great how they colonise the areas where they park their bikes and make an absolute mess of litter and oil stains. Generally it’ll be the road and all over the pavement in the area, so pedestrians can get fked if they want to get past.
