Pick n Pay slashes car licence disc renewal price

Pick n Pay has announced its vehicle licence disc renewal service is now available at all 500 of its supermarkets and hypermarkets at a reduced service fee of R250.

The grocery retailer said due to "overwhelming demand", the service was launched nationally, following a pilot programme at 19 stores in the country.

The new price might lure a few more, but still too expensive for me.

My banker does license disc renewals for my fleet and personal vehicles at no extra cost apart from me paying his driver for fuel to go to the licensing station.

Whoever at PnP is in charge of this initiative should get fired.

This little experiment will probably end up costing them money.

From almost R500 to R250. sounds much more reasonable now.

Anyway its amazing how private companies can capitalise on the inefficiencies of our traffic departments
The fact that the traffic depts still offer the service is the real sign of a failed state.

They are still paying all the dead-eyed workers on cushy salaries to do this job badly. The correct thing to do is to get rid of this particular service and privatize it completely. Same with drivers licenses.

In my case their business model does not make sense. Why would I walk past the Post Office to the Pick 'n Pay and stand in their long queues just to pay for a renewal and then have to wait 10 days for delivery?

At the PO I'll get it immediately. And their queues are shorter than PnP's. If PnP's service was 100% online, then yes, it would make a big difference.

Checker 60 will get it right - get your groceries and license

Only when you personally benefit would any business decision be a sensible one?
