Update. Line is fixed.

The technician told me that the exchange was upgraded (for the VDSL roll out) and a lot of lines were moved to new racks. Somewhere in the process, my phone line wasn't connected up properly

I wonder if that means the back haul has also been upgraded for the exchange?
I get atrocious speeds between 17:00 and 21:00 on the PvR exchange once everyone get's home and starts surfing.

Lol yeah, the original issues that started this thread were fixed long ago. This thread just sort of started as a general chat area for the PvR residents :D The current issue only lasted 2 weeks this time.

I don't know, but for VDSL roll out, I assume that there should be loads of back haul capacity available, so maybe your problem isn't back-haul related? (I always get max line speed any time of the day.)

Which ISP do you use? I get decent speeds at night but it's less consistent during the day. I opted for the Incredible Connection R99 per month deal a while back and they're reselling Internet Solutions accounts as far as I know.

I'm on an MWeb uncapped 2Mbps connection.
Last time I checked with a Telkom account it was also slow at the same time of the day but maybe that was a fluke and my ISP is actually the one to blame.

That is just the nature of uncapped. Those times most people consume data so everyone slows down.

So I cut down a tree in a my garden without thinking and snapped my ADSL line in the process. I've been meaning to move over to LTE for a while now and this provided the perfect excuse. ADSL has been cancelled and I've just signed up for LTE. I've opted for the 50GB day + 50GB Night Surfer package. My average usage is 48GB - 50GB a month so I'm confident this should be adequate. Will put it through its paces tonight and provide some feedback if anyone's interested.

Did any of you notice a change in the max speed at which the line sync and / or experience webpages that time out?

The last 2-3 days I have seen webpages that timeout every now and then (maybe 5%). I simply reload the webpage and it is there. This morning I did a speedtest and my line syncs at 10Mbps - previously the max was 6Mbps.

The Telkom website also shows they are busy with VDSL roll out in PvR. So, I wonder if the are busy working at the exchange and this may be causing problems?

ADSL line has been inconsistent lately. I've received an sms from Telkom stating that there are problems in PvR and that they had a separate reporting line open for that for a short while. So this might go on for a while...

I have been lucky this far - line is running ok. I will monitor it and give feedback.

Anyone on the Ryneveld exchange noticed a drop in speed over the last 2 weeks or so? it's as if Telkom disabled ASSIA, since ASSIA my pings was around 50 ms, download speed around 4 even up to 5 MB and upload well above 0.4 MB. Now my ping is much faster again around 25 ms, but my download speed have dropped to around 3.6 MB and upload is well under 0.4.
I'm on a 4 MB line, tested with both MWeb and Afrihost accounts.

I have a very weird problem, I've been on a 4 MB line for over 2 years but on moving my line over to Afrihost a week ago, I also wanted to upgrade it to 10 MB. I did the upgrade and my router showed that the line is syncing at 8 MB, but I'm still only getting actual speeds as if I'm still on the 4 MB line.
It has been a back and forth with Afrihost, they seam very reluctant to actually log a fault with Telkom, according to them the area can clearly not support the higher throughput, but I tell them that the area supports up to 20 MB.
There's one guy at Afrihost who suggested my line is probably on a 4 MB port at the exchange and that Telkom must physically change it to another rack, I now basically insisted that Afrihost log this with Telkom because it's the only thing which still makes sense, we tried everything else.
I haven't heard back from Afrihost yet after only messaging them late this afternoon, but if they still refuse to log it with Telkom tomorrow I'm going to throagh my toys.

Anyone still alive in this thred?
I'm still sitting with the problem as above, but at least Telkom is working on it at the exchange.
Something else, anyone in the PVR / Rietvallei park / Elardus park areas using uncapped LTE from Telkom? I'm trying to find out how the service performs in the area. Reading on the forum some areas are fine and others have endless speed issues.

Phew! Must be frustrating to have these issues and it doesn't get resolved. Hope your problems get sorted.

I am currently using ADSL which has really been stable. For that reason I cannot comment on LTE - sorry!
