As far as I know there are only 3 possible locations to aim at - the tower in Typhoon street facing Irene Village Mall, the tower behind the Spar in Fouche street and the tower at the end of Herzog Rd behind the pub...

Thanks for this. Are you sure all three you mentioned are Telkom LTE towers?

@martin have you signed up for the wireless fiber yet and do you perhaps have more info? I found out that I'm also in their coverage area on the other side of the R21 in Rietvallei park and since Telkom have no plans to install fiber in my street, I'm considering it.
I for example want to know what technology this uses, what does my R3000 installation fee buy, what will they install at my house etc etc.
I'm totally against internet or cellphone contracts, so I would also like to find out what their opt out terms are if I'm not happy with the service or if I can't get the advertised speeds.

Hi, I need to quickly mention the standard disclaimer stuff. I don't work for the company and this is not an endorsement of their service in any way. My knowledge extends as far as my online conversations with the owner and one I had in person at their offices. Anything I answer is based on those conversations and I could have been misinterpreted by myself. From a personal point of view I'm excited about an alternative to ADSL and LTE as both those offerings have steadily degraded in reliability in Pierre van Rynveld.

I'd also highly recommend you get in touch with Dewald in person to discuss your questions. He's a great chap and seems to be really passionate about the whole project. He's also insistent about making sure everything related to the setup and installation of his infrastucture is above board. This includes things like getting the necessary permits from authorities for erecting his base towers.

1. Have you signed up for the wireless fiber yet? I'm signed up but the infrastructure project will only be completed some time in June as I understand it, so I'm not paying for or using the service yet.
2. I for example want to know what technology this uses? Not standard wifi based on our conversations. It seems to be a well tested and as I understand it should also ensure little interference from other wireless signals.
3. What does my R3000 installation fee buy, what will they install at my house? The cost covers the radio equipment for communication with the base towers and the installation (and configuration) thereof I assume.
4. I'm totally against internet or cellphone contracts, so I would also like to find out what their opt out terms are if I'm not happy with the service or if I can't get the advertised speeds? You'd have to contact Delitech to clarify this. I think the reason for the contracts is due to Delitech investing in the setup of the necessary infrastructure. They need some guarantee on the size of their client base for a set period of time in order to recoup those costs I'd assume. I don't have a lot of insight into the T's and C's but it would have to be compliant with current SA consumer law to be enforcable. You should be okay if you have a valid reason for terminating your contract early.

Thanks, I'm busy exchanging some emails with Dewald, one of my questions to him was why there's not a lot of discussion around this on MyBB from their side.

Personally I'm also excited about this as my ADSL line has been getting worse and worse especially the last few months.
A slight concern is that this sounds a bit too good to be true, but I guess that's because we are use to how Telkom do things, how they lied about LTE coverage and being totally uncapped in the passed etc etc.

He said most discussion around this is on Facebook, do you perhaps know on what page or group?

I do indeed, they are very good about responding to questions on these two Facebook pages: https://www.facebook.com/DELITECHITSOLUTIONS/
https://www.facebook.com/ryneveldfibre/

They also post to two of the local community groups I belong to but either of the above two pages should serve you well. Especially if you're not interested in trying to find their posts in between rants and pictures of lost dogs ;)

We're happy to discuss your concerns. Feel free to pop in at our office! (Perhaps not this week, we're moving downstairs opposite the ABSA ATMs). However, "too good to be true" is not entirely a fair assessment based on the reality of true broadband. We understand that; South Africans have long been exposed to sub-par standards and dodgy practices (including certain operators in Pierre van Ryneveld).

We're trying to be as transparent about this project as possible. See the project website for details on the packages, FAQ and a very clear FUP.

At the risk of sounding like a certain puppet in a certain Nando's ad, we're simply trying very hard to bring change to Pierre van Ryneveld. We have no agenda, and we're certainly not about to risk our 16 year solid reputation as a service provider.

Hey, I am also thinking about this as my max speed on ADSL is currently 4MB.

Can you maybe give the pricelist, or a summary of the product - maybe just copy and paste from facebook. But I can't access facebook from where I am currently.

Edit:
Okay I just found this website in the previous page:
http://www.ryneveldfibre.co.za/

Do you also offer hosting - I would prefer to have every thing at one company.

Edit 2:
What router would we get with the installation?

Retail pricing is as follows:

+- 20mbps - R999
+- 50mbps - R1399
+- 100mbps - R1799

Installation:
* R2899 (own modem with a WAN port) or R3499 (modem included)

Features:
* Symmetrical
* Low latency
* Zero rated Netflix, Showmax, DSTV Now, Youtube, Steam and Origin traffic
* Optimised for gaming and streaming
* 24/7 monitoring & response team

FUP (in short):
* P2P, NNTP etc may be deprioritised if the network is busy
* Extensive downloads (e.g. P2P, software etc. to be scheduled between 00:00 and 05:00) (literally those who download drive after drive of "stuff")
* No full-scale business use on home connections

Remember, we're rolling out in 2-3 months (may be earlier, may be delayed a bit). Your property has to be within 1.5km of one of the wireless fibre access points.

For details, see the project website (http://www.ryneveldfibre.co.za).

- Yes, we offer hosting as well. 1gb space / unmetered traffic / cPanel / MySQL / PHPMyAdmin and all the typical features from R39 per month.
- Router - ASUS RT-N12E or similar

The end of that coverage map is very close to my house. Hope I would be able to get it though. I will come chat when the store has moved.

I just sent in my application. Let's see how this goes.
Think I should start a new thread about this in the Fiber section, there might be people missing this one who's monitoring for fiber news.

Wonder if the Wifi & Wisp forum might not be a better fit seeing as it's a wireless service with fibre backhaul? Update this thread with a link to the new thread if you decide to go ahead. I'd like to join in on the conversation.

Wifi thread is very quiet and after all this is fiber and advertised as wireless fiber, so I think it best if it goes in the Fiber section. I'll put something together a little later today when I have time.
