Ping is gone?

I used to be able to run this command on the permanent basis to keep the connection to tower alive:

ping -t 196.30.31.100

Now it just says "Request timed out" all the time.

What gives? Has the IP address changed? Or is it beng blocked now? The response without ping is a lot more laggy ...

Please advise.

just change it to 196.30.31.101

Looks like the LNS router's IP has changed from 196.30.31.100 to 196.2.97.1 ... at least for me. This is the first hop from your PC or router and is responsible for terminating your PPP session (and by virtue passing login info to the auth server).

Seems more like whatever hardware was running on .100 has died ;-) .. could explain the mystery "core network degradation" without any sort of notification of what is actually going in....
