Hi

Iv been playing CS Source on the local severs for about 4 months, I have 512k dsl at home. When i started my ping was between 20-50ms, and it stayed like that for about 3 months, all of sudden a few weeks ago i cant get a ping below 300ms?

Is this something I can fix on my pc or is it a problem with the line? And I never download anything while im playing online games.

Who is your ADSL service provider? Do they use the SAIX fibre backbone or the IS backbone?

AVG is fine. Run a virus check, run a Spyware check (I use MS defender beta) Then turn those off when you game. Also close down any other programs that may be running while you're trying to play.

Then it's SAIX - telkoms fibre network. Killa's right as well. If you're paying the man, make him work for it ;)

hi there guys..
same probs as riddler...but lemme add some meat.
i play Americas Army, online first person military simulator/game. local servers are hosted by gamezone and saix. i got a 384dsl connection. normal ping from dos box to servers are in the range of 30-40ms. for the third time in +/- 5 months my ping has jumped to a steady 296ms (cannot play competitively on more than 100)im running two partitions, one for run o the mill stuff and one partition loaded with nothing more than my game, voip client, antispyware and AVG. Two more gamers in the same suburb are experiencing the same pings of over 290ms. log on to dsl at work in diff suburb and ping is normal, 30-40ms. contatcted telkom and me and my friends all logged faults. telkom dont know crap about latency and keep saying i must try diff isp, after i told em i tried cybersmart, mweb, telkom and openweb accounts all with the same result. my biggest problem is that u cannot get a hold of some1 that actually knows what theyre talking about all u get are phone assistants and instalation technicians and all they wanna know is can u surf the web. i dont surf the web. i play online...thats the whole reason for getting dsl.
surely somewhere inside telkom there must be some1 that can understand latency and the effects of lag. some1 that wont turn a deaf ear to a gamer.
tomorow marks day number 7 in trying to get telkom to understand our problems and we still no closer than on day one. damn frustrating.
Riddler...if anything comes from this and we do get it sorted somewhere in the next six months ill be sure to post here and let u know how we solved it/who we spoke to.

I had a similar problem with increased latency to games.saix.net.
About 1 month ago my ping increased from an average of 50ms to an average of 100ms. After logging a fault with telkom this went back to an average of 50ms.
This repeated about a week ago and telkom sent out a technician who after testing made some phonecalls and managed to get my pings to games.saix.net back to 50 ms.
He maintained the problem was caused by errors in the routing table at the local exchange.

LO Gr8 its UsualSuspect....Yeah i've also had problems recently...just with my unshaped account tho. I have an unshaped and shaped account from Web Africa. Yesterday again my unshaped ping went thru the roof and yet my shaped was decent.....weird.

Im also getting a higher ping to the game servers recently, so looks like im going to have to log a fault....im in CT south subs.
