hi there guys..
same probs as riddler...but lemme add some meat.
i play Americas Army, online first person military simulator/game. local servers are hosted by gamezone and saix. i got a 384dsl connection. normal ping from dos box to servers are in the range of 30-40ms. for the third time in +/- 5 months my ping has jumped to a steady 296ms (cannot play competitively on more than 100)im running two partitions, one for run o the mill stuff and one partition loaded with nothing more than my game, voip client, antispyware and AVG. Two more gamers in the same suburb are experiencing the same pings of over 290ms. log on to dsl at work in diff suburb and ping is normal, 30-40ms. contatcted telkom and me and my friends all logged faults. telkom dont know crap about latency and keep saying i must try diff isp, after i told em i tried cybersmart, mweb, telkom and openweb accounts all with the same result. my biggest problem is that u cannot get a hold of some1 that actually knows what theyre talking about all u get are phone assistants and instalation technicians and all they wanna know is can u surf the web. i dont surf the web. i play online...thats the whole reason for getting dsl.
surely somewhere inside telkom there must be some1 that can understand latency and the effects of lag. some1 that wont turn a deaf ear to a gamer.
tomorow marks day number 7 in trying to get telkom to understand our problems and we still no closer than on day one. damn frustrating.
Riddler...if anything comes from this and we do get it sorted somewhere in the next six months ill be sure to post here and let u know how we solved it/who we spoke to.
