Pit bull disfigures a greyhound at Sea Point Promenade

This is why I can't take my Ridgeback to Sea Point, she's a very reactive dog, but because people let their dogs off leash there I can't take her to walk on leash.

I keep my distance from other people and dogs, but a dog will come running from 50 meters away and the owner will shout "don't worry, he's just playing"... ma'am my dog will indeed by playing with your little poodle, as a rag doll, if you don't call it back.

Dog owners who let their dogs off leash wherever they want are all POS, they limit the places those of us who have reactive dogs, or dogs in training, can take our dogs to.

100%

Why not just muzzle these big dogs. Then nooone can bite no one. No leashes required. They can hump each other to death.

Because people have it in their heads that muzzles are cruel, and mean your dog is a killing machine
Instead of people acknowledging that muzzles are a tool that also allow reactive dogs to enjoy being outdoors and in public.

I wouldn't mind muzzle training my ridgie, people love to just randomly walk up to her and touch her ridge on her back cause she's pretty. And if someone asks me why she's muzzled, I'm cruel, I'll tell them it's because of idiots like you

My niece and her husband think their dog (some sort of whippet mix) is a fcking baby and take it all over with them, then let it run off-leash. They visited me one day, I told them that my wife's dog (a pavement special of 'god knows what' mix between a maltese and a scotty rescued by the wife when visiting the SPCA one day), although smaller, isn't going to take kindly to your dog running around in her space - did they listen, nooooo "don't worry Uncle, Lil's well trained, it won't be an issue" - ja well no fine - two nips later and Lil was hiding under the table for the rest of the visit  - needless to say Lil is no longer brought along to family functions at my house.

Good dog, taught the other doggie about boundaries. Lil whippet probably never been told off in it's life

you get the picture yet? there's a sign at every access path to the promenade
Those are all at parks which are specifically for kids to play and not for dogs. I put my dog on the leash to go though those or if the kids want to play there.
Well done on pulling those up, I appreciate the effort. Its a shared space and everyone needs to be aware of the other people around them.

err you had better check again, I'm there almost every Sunday

I repeat, there is a sign at EVERY access path to the promenade stating outright your dog must be on a leash, when I say every access path I mean it, there is literally only two or three kids play areas (near the lighthouse and the blue train park thing) yet there are ±10 signs spread across the entire promenade stating the rules

not on the promenade itself, but at every access path i.e. you pass by one of those signs on the way to the promenade no matter which access path you take, the only way you can miss them is if you're cutting across the lawn

the very first link I shared is the Mouille Point start of the promenade, no kids play area anywhere in sight

why must her dog go say hello

Because, if you've ever been around dogs, this is quite normal behaviour.

However, the owner should have stopped her dog from going close. I never let my gf's dog get close to power/aggressive breeds because of how unpredictable they are, or how difficult they can be to deal with if a fight breaks out.

I walk around with a knobkierie. Get close to me, with or without a leash and I start bliksem. Learned my lesson from the last attack. Dogs don't like to be hit with knob kieries for some reason.
Does this also work for beggars at the robot? Asking for a friend.

That violent killing machine is clearly just storing energy in anticipation of the next opportunity to maul a toddler.
She absolutely loves to maul a toddler, no question.

Slobber from excessive licking equates to mauling hey?

I often see people with one dog on the leash and the other off. It totally makes sense to not approach the one on leash and I will always direct my hound away from that situation.

While I generally agree with this sentiment, in urban environments or areas without a lot of space, I always keep a dog on a leash. If there's plenty of space I might not be upset if someone doesn't stick 100% to the leash laws.
