Plan to ban Internet porn sparks uproar

just legislate all porn to the .xxx TLD and put up appropriate DNS filters where required. problem solved.

And then the ip address list is posted your dns filter is then useless, or people start using proxies or people go out meet other people and swap, or they make their own or ... or ...

Very much doubt all their local efforts are even going to matter.

Its so funny that they really wanna ban internet porn, wonder if they really know that is as good as doing nothing, kids here are already exposed to porn it doesn't matter if its on the internet, everywhere on the streets there are selling porn downloaded from internet sites & kids can buy them without any hustle, those guys who sell they don't mind who they are selling too as long as business is great, i think parents who have kids with access to the net definitely can monitor their kids, ;)

not really... you can still view it on sites like reddit, or download from Torrent/Usenet.

I think moving it all to .xxx is a good idea in theory. Unfortunately it's also a step towards segregating and controlling the web which I'm against.

Good luck with that.
Most of us know that porn isn't hosted on the internet. The internet is allowed to be hosted on porn.

That being said, I'd normally lose my cool over stuff like this but to be perfectly honest if it can at least make it a little bit harder or unlikely for smaller kids to "accidentally" stumble across the ...err.. more "colorful" stuff out there I guess it's OK.
Even something like a simple Google image search can sometimes serve up some real whoppers.

I have an issue with stuff like this though if it's something that's being pushed onto people irregardless if they want it or not. Stuff like this should be handled at the ISP level on a per-user request basis or something.

I dont see my 10 year old daughter implementinga proxy. This is what its about. The IP swoppers and shadow ****ers will always be there. At least not when my daughter googles "booby".

:D

Iceland can legislate whatever it likes, but it has no jurisdiction over what happens outside of Iceland, which means that pr0n is gonna be published at dot coms like at present. Problem NOT solved.

He is right though - porn should be on a .xxx Top level domain.

how this was not done when they designed the internet, I have no idea. It would make filtering so much more effective.

Good luck to any person who thinks he/she will block porn on the Internet. It simply will not happen. The nature of the Internet always allow a person to visit any site or view any video despite any measures that have been put in place to prevent them. Putting porn on certain domain extensions will not help. Restricting porn to certain IP addresses will not help.

Porn on the Internet is here to stay, people need to face it and live with it. Just find ways to control your kids and not the Internet.

Edit - Mandatory comment: Stupid F**ks!

Putting adult websites on a different .xxx TLD is controlling the internet? how?

Agreed with the control your kids and not the Internet, although as a parent it does get harder to control what your kids get exposed to in the outside world. Making it a little bit more difficult to find porn on the Internet could help and as you state, those looking for porn will still be able to find it.

But... but... but... it's about the children! I implore you to think of the children!!!

Watching these idiots trying to get this to work will prove hugely entertaining...

Imploration request heard but denied.

I too have children, but reality is that I cannot change the Internet to adapt to my children, nor can anyone else, not even Barrack Obama (if he wanted to).

Unfortunately, even with a controlled Internet, if your child wants to see porn, he/she will see it. Unfortunately there are no measures to prevent people from doing so. Just go and have a look at China when they tried to restrict what the public could and could not see. Go do some research.

So, I am back to you managing your children and not the Internet.

And that's the crux of the matter. Whenever a Government starts moaning about the poor little children I immediately go into offense mode.... with good reason of course.
