What is the thing made of? Dark matter? Is that why we haven't seen it yet?

a mars that's 4 times larger than Jupiter? That thing would have gravity so strong you would literally squash to the floor and the atmosphere would be so dense on the floor that it would be like chilling at the bottom of the ocean :p.

Well, it's not THAT bad. It's the same as being accelerated in a rocket, in the vacuum of space, for a few months. Once you learn how to breathe under the pressure, you can then learn how to swallow, blink, crawl, walk, run, then finally lift a teacup.

Probably hydrogen and helium, the left overs of a star that's exploded. Also, it's so far away that it'll have almost no light to reflect off of it...

I don't think so. It's supposed to make up like 70 or 80% of the universe or something like that. So, I'm pretty sure it's all around, not just far away. Also, I thought it was supposed to be some undetectable / as yet unknown form of matter (hence the dark); so, NOT H or He then.

The universe is still so mysterious. I can't wait for light speed travel.

Methinks he was referring to the transporters, so probably teleportation

Ahhh, well, given that most of your gass planets are made of lighter gases like Helium and hydrogen, so that's a safe assumption. Furthermore, it's composition isn't really vital, and given then it's 4 times the size of Jupiter, if it were made of things too heavy, it would be a massive rock planet, not many things are in gaseous form.

It's also not visible because it's pretty far away, however, given it's size, there should be a massive ball shining infrared radiation, which would be pretty noticeable. Also, you'd see massive amounts of those icey-rocks buzzy around it due to it's one gravity well, unless it's got so much crap spinning around it that you can't see it :p.

The only way they gonna find it is maybe to fly over there and take a look :p.

Well, I don't think anything with mass can go to the speed of light, as the faster you go, your relative mass increases, and when you start playing with speeds at about 99% of the speed of light, you mass increases at a massive rate, meaning you need infinite energy so you gain infinite mass, which isn't feasible. :p

You mean the wormhole kind?

Those would be useful :p, instead of stuffing around with going really fast and have relativity kick you in the ass, you just cut a hole in the fabric of space and time, and jump to another end of the universe :p.

I think we got our lines crossed somewhere. I was talking about Dark Matter, which I thought you'd been referring to in the earlier post. But now it appears you are / were talking about the mystery planet. Or a planet anyway.

ha ha, well, I don't know what dark matter is in any case :p, sorry, looks like we misunderstood each other :p

Gas giants are primarily Hydrogen.

HD 209458 b is another interesting giant. In addition to hydrogen, it contains an atmosphere rich in oxygen, carbon and water vapor. You can view Osiris from earth with a pair of binoculars and she sits in the Pegasus constellation.

errr..pics or it didn't happen.

Edit: reading about it on wiki now, really interesting - thanks for that tidbit.

I need to buy myself a telescope, this might call for a new thread.
