Just chiming in to agree that I don't really care how the money is spent, the tax has made a huge difference already. I hardly ever see plastic bags littering the area where I stay any more and that's good enough for me.
So you dont believe in fiscal accountability?

You know what would have made an even bigger difference - a bounty on discarded bags. People would go out of their way to pick them up for recycling even if it was as little as a few cents per bag.

Agree on the litter issue: Its great that our national flower became extinct. BUT I fully agree that there has to be Fiscal accountability. Two national goods can come out of this instead of one national good and one private good (read lining a few pockets)

Wow, you found me out! I don't believe in fiscal accountability. Please don't put words in my mouth, 'kay?

I honestly don't care if the money in question IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE went towards Jacob Zuma's defence. I'll happily pay 20c every now again to no longer see plastic bags littering the environment.

Now you can grill me on my ignorance or lack of social responsibility or whatever you'd like to call it, but I'm seeing positive results and that makes me not care so much about this.

Hope that clears it up for you.

It is clear that misappropriation of funds that you are contributing towards without choice is not a concern to you.

In that case, I am collecting funds to help the poor Krakatoan people, would you like to contribute?

As stated earlier, in this particular case it's of no concern to me.

At least I have the guts to be honest about it. I'll even go as far as to wager that you'll do no more about this than discuss it on an online forum which means you care about as much as I do. If I'm wrong and you're actually doing something about it then I sincerely apologize in advance.

Mix and match your quotes and you can discredit anything I say.

I honestly don't care if the money in question IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE...

I even put the important part in caps for you.

I do believe in fiscal accountability but I really couldn't care less what happens to the plastic bag tax money. And yes, before anyone points out the obvious here let me save you the trouble, I do have double standards on this but at least I'm willing to acknowledge it.

I get it - selective accountability when the ends justify the means.

Precisely, and the day that we stop complaining about every little issue and debating it to death on this forum and start doing something about it will be the day I'll admit that I need to change my viewpoint on this. But hey, I'm not going to do anything about it at the moment or in the foreseeable future (and I doubt anyone else on here will), and based on that I can only conclude that I don't really care how the money is spent.
