Wrong section and this has been discussed before. PUBG runs ons Azure, there are no Azure servers in Africa. Maybe when we get Azure servers we can get some PUBG servers.

Is gaming the wrong section?

Also, just for facts sake, apparently it runs on both Azure and AWS.

This was in the Hardware And Gadgets section. They recently changed from AWS servers to Azure servers. Also AWS don't have any servers in Africa.

Some articles were updated to say that the quote was misrepresented and they are running on both, not moving all to Azure.

It's irrelevant whether they run Azure or AWS. Neither are available in SA (yet). I know Azure will probably be rolled out some time this year and Amazon is also pushing to land soon, but as it stands right now, neither are available.

If they bring in the ping lock we will probably be screwed and I for one will ask for a refund as we will be unable to play. Let's hope things change for the better sooner rather than later....

Local servers for PUBG and Fortnite will be nice but realistically will it work? 100 Players per round and even if 50 gets eliminated within 5min and they disconnect and rejoin the queue how long will the queue times be.

I play fortnite and feel maybe they have a upper hand on PUBG just because they are free so you will likely get a constant flow of new players because it just requires you to download and it's not pay to win the micro transactions are cosmetic only.

Fortnite is also available on all platforms where PUBG is only on PC and xbox. xbox version for R499 feels a bit expensive and will probably increase queue times if SA servers eve become a possibility.

All that said playing on local servers feels so much better. Started playing battlefield 1 on xbox one with ea access and I get 2ms with my fibre line to the Mweb JHB server which is very nice to play. No lag what so ever.

Fortnite has 40 million downloads, surely at least a couple thousand of those are from South Africa or Africa in general so I don't think it'd be an issue.
