Playing BF2 with Wi-Fi connection.

Hi ppl.

I hope this thread is in the right place. I have a WiFi connection and play BF2 on it. My speed if tested at Gamco is anything between 120kb and 210 kb/s.
I would like to know how to test my ping rate. When I started out 4 months ago playing BF2, I had a ping rate of +- 50 to 110. This started to get worse and worse. Now I am lucky to get a 250 ping. Every time I try to play, I get kicked for a high ping rate of 650. I could actualy see in my BF2 stats section that I get kicked more and more lately because of my ping rate. Is the problem with the BF2 SGS servers or with my service provider.?? I just dont understand how I was able to play BF2 4 months ago with very average ping rate, and all of a sudden I can hardly connect or get kicked 5min into the game. any ideas?

Hektually ... something has changed at SGS or the route into SGS has been modified.
I am on 80ms lag on teklom provided capped ADSL where 4 months ago that was 40ms lag.

Something is changed for sure.

You see... this is where u r losing me..... All I know is that I got a aerial on my roof that I am getting my internet from.

I think this does not answer your question to me..... How do do I see what kind of wireless it is?
I am one of those ppl who just like to plug it in, and then it must work. But like I said... now I am plugging it in, and plugging it in, and plugging it in, and plugging it in, and plugging it in........ but still I cant even get to play BF2 for longer than 10min and then get kicked for high ping.

Well im having the same problem here but with another game......Cant do squat anymore..Its like the connection just comes an goes drives me insane...An Now PLaying FSp online with Wifi...Well honetsly...I just cant..lags to much evne on local servers..Get a ping of 150 to 370....while every1 else is 30 to 50!

So now what....... I am paying R395 for a 196k connection. Is there anything else available for the same price range & speed in the Somerset West Helderberg area? I dont think ADSL is this cheap. But then again they dont have such bad pings either..... mmmm

ADSL384 is ~R250 a month from August. You can get a 2Gb account for around R160 a month, 3gb for around R200 a month from webafrica, maybe less from someone like cybersmart.

So yes, you can defintiely do ADSL in that price range.

EDIT: Sorry, that's assuming you're already paying for a normal land line.

I dont have a Helkom line. How much extra will that be? Is it just a normal phone line that I need? Like when I still had a 56k dial up connection. Or do I need a special helkom line?

Could the weather really have anything to do with it like they say?

That's unaccepatible for FPS games unfortunately Most servers will kick you at around 400ms.

WRT ADSL, in that case you'll need to add R100 per month for the land line as well. Hopefully the ADSL regs that were due monday ( ) Will stop the double billing for the line. regardless current cost is then:
~R100 for the line
~R250 for the "ADSL connection"
~R200 for bandwidth.

So it's about R550pm. Cybersmart has a 3Gb on 384 for R145, you can try them to bring the price down to about R500.

Well, I think I havnt done too badly before in BF2. This is now before my ping rate started to klimb. But lately I only get to spawn into the game, I can then see all the baddies around me, but I am unable to move. The baddies now get the chance to just walk up to me and knife me in the head. This is doing nothing for my K/D ratio.......

Anyway.. the service provider I am with, said that they are gonna change all the arials to some new kind of arial. Something of going digital or something and that it is more stable..... WTF does that mean?.............
