The Xbox One might have to go Super Saiyan to catch up to PlayStation 4 in South Africa

The install base of the PlayStation 4 has just gone over 40,000, and there are over 300,000 PlayStation 3 consoles in South Africa.

Interesting... So how much stock is available in SA? IIRC the 2nd and 3rd shipment was quite large and that the 1st shipment couldn't cater the demand, so how many units was in the 1st shipment?

I believe there was articles on MyBroadBand/MyGaming covering the above.

South African demand for the PlayStation 4 has been strong since its launch on the 13th of December 2013. So strong that the first two shipments of 10,000 units each sold out within weeks of arriving.

We have received feedback from SKE, and yes we did sell out on the second shipment and the 3rd will arrive early next week.

“We are overwhelmed with how incredible the PlayStation 4 has done since its launch in 2013 and have shown a record Q4 2013 and the first part of Q1 this year in our hardware sales figures” said Mario dos Santos, Chief Executive Officer of Ster Kinekor Entertainment.

So each shipment is approx. 10,000 units, knowing that ~40,000 units are in the install base, then Ster Kinekor must be in their 5th or 6th shipment, must had been quiet between March and coming November.

They probably make an adjustment for imported PS4's too. I didn't buy my PS4 locally and I know of a few others who never as well. I imagine the number of consoles privately imported is quite high because of the lack of supply and because the consoles are a bit cheaper overseas.
