Aaahhh you see... You must build your PC yourself! :p

AMD cards do tend to get hot, but if you haven't figured out how to setup fans in your case or have tampered with the fan itself or did some radical OCing, that should not happen.
^^ +1

I've got a Thermeltake Chaser A31 which has very good cooling and all the fan slots are filled, 6 in total. Three drawing cool air in from front and bottom and three exhaust back and top so i'm not to fazed about the cooling.

My CPU and GPU temps never exceed 60deg when gaming (the GPU is an old MSI N250GTS)

In general the thermals of AMD card are subpar. That's been the case for a long time. Especially with the crappy stock coolers. Nvidia's way ahead of them on this.
Those R9 290X (and non X) coolers are really disappointing, can wait for the aftermarket coolers! Hawk & Toxic FTW!

AMD is miles behind with regards to temps and efficiency.. But then again, they lead the way when it comes to performance on a budget.

What convincing do you need?
You look like you were planning to buy a powercolor before and a powercolor after...
Get the better card, you will be sad if you dont.

I was actually deadset on getting the Gigabyte R9 270X and saw its sold out almost all over the online retailers and the Powercolor R9 280x ad on Wootware home page grabbed my attention! its the 1st ad to popup on top.

Big thanks to all you guys comments! I've just placed the order 10 mins ago and will wait until next week the 17th for delivery. Stock lands on Friday the 13th and lead time to delivery or pickup is the 17th.

Spend your money on the NVIDIA.. don't take a shortie on an AMD or any other brand.
If you are into reliability, get Nvidia. But if you are looking for performance for the same (or less) price, AMD is your only option ATM.

Most definitely enjoying it BIG TIME!!! This gpu is a real beast on 1080p!

Just been playing Grid 2 for a while now and the game's own benchmark tool was average 62fps and highest was 71!

This is all settings on ultra and 4xAA and nothing is overclocked or boosted on my cpu and gpu!

I'm smitten and the graphics looks AWESOME!

I'm a very happy man indeed!

*Edit* Was playing for close to an hour and started hearing a slightly elevated fan noise and thought it was most probably gpu but was actually cpu!

Gpu runs dead quiet!

Nice. It is good that you are enjoying the card. Many people tend to have issues with AMD, but I honestly have not had a single AMD card fail on me or give me problems. It is a known fact that some have driver issues, but I have not experienced this either.

I have however, had an nvidia card fail on me, a long time ago.

Not being a fanboy, just saying.

I've only used Nvidea cards since owning a pc and two of them failed on me lol! Was a MSI GT430 OC edition and a MSI GT630 so I'm sorta shying away from MSI though people say its one of the better brand gpu's... Funny, yet mu oldest MSI card, a N250GTS was always kept as a backup and never failed on me until today when i replaced it with the new one lol!

lol, it is strange, because I have heard a lot of good things about MSI cards, and also heard of some of them failing. I suppose once in a while someone gets a bad card, regardless of it being AMD or Nvidia.

They've had at least two separate cases of nvidia releasing drivers that burn out gfx cards and you say nvidia for reliability?

lol

What happened to AMD? Saying one is more reliable than the other is absolute BS unless you got hard proof? Every single nvidia I have ever had has died.

No point in arguing about that. Some one who claims one brand is more reliable clearly doesn't know anything about hardware.

I am sure at the end of the day both Nvidia and AMD are both reliable cards. I am sure that the price factor is one of the primary reasons why a lot of people are going AMD, I mean who doesn't want more bang for their buck?

Ok back to topic. I for one can most certainly say that I am loving my Powercolor HD7950! Plus it came with like 4 quality games :D I'm currently jamming Bioshock Infinite. Man I am loving the game so far! The scenery in that game is incredible and the game has the strangeness about it, but in a good and interesting way, which I love.
