Difference between the Telkom and MWeb test.

DSL 1024

Telkom Test: Your line speed is approximately 919.5 Kbps or 112.7 kBytes/sec

MWeb Test: Your average speed was 508.9 Kb/s. It took 7 seconds to download 445 KB.

Can someone please explain the difference between the telkom and MWeb test.

Important Note: Your browser will cache the file the first time you download it. To download it again you might have to press and hold CTRL while clicking on reload. This should give you an accurate download speed.

Unbelivable

For two days now my 192Kbps line is running extreme speeds - yestedays I was downloading two files concurrently at 30KB/s and just now I got a file down at 48KBps steady speed!

Previously my line never used to give more than 32KB/s...

BTW, modem used to report a speed of 320kbps and now it is 4640! Whatever it is causing this better stay that way ... :)

I think the telkom line is supercharged to a unshaped unprioritised port to con all the users. I ran probably 500 test plus in the last weeks at various times. Only average 350 KBps internationally and locally with all tests except Telsxcum site which gives 800 kbps average.

Package: 384
Location: Vanderbijlpark
Download time: 9 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 453.3 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 55.6 (kiloBytes/second)

Am I wrong or is the on average a very minor difference between the speeds obtained on the Telkom test between the 384 and 512 options?

I agree with Ghatto and Pupa, the Telkom test does seem to be supercharged, I too have been experiencing slower speeds on the other tests.

Glich in my line !! 192 doing 55k

Hi

I have a 192K Line. Yes, 192 !

ISP = Imaginet 30gb - SAIX backbone.

Telkomsa.net speed test...
Your line speed is approximately 448.6 Kbps or 55 kBytes/sec

When I used to connect with the Mecer USB modem, i got 20kb/s, the limit speed for 192. However, I installed a Netgear ADSL DG834G Wireless ADSL Firewall Router, which I bought while I was in London, UK.

When I hook this baby up, I get 55k speeds. Local and International !!

Also, my Router shows at what speeds im connected. And this is where the glich comes in, it shows I'm connected at 640K for download, and 384k for upload.

When I was in London, had a 2.2mbps connection, it showed 2.2mbps in the router. So, something is not up to standard whatever Telkom is doing. If you dont believe me, I'll ad a screenshot.

Ciao and enjoy

Let me Break it down for you all.

Speed of Line......Acceptable Average
192kbps.............18 - 22Kbps
384kbps.............32 - 38Kbps
512kbps.............40 - 45Kbps

as you read this you all will begin to b*tch, but you might get faster speeds depending on, distance from DSLAM, Trafic, wrong DNS ect. there are obviously the lucky individuals who get 56kbps on a 512 (some who complain about this slow speed) and a client with 384kbps lines browsing at 52kbps.

telkom has not yet given us the speeds you should be getting with the meg lines but I will try to keep you posted
