Please Help Me Figure Out My Telkom Bill

End of March I migrated from Afrihost to Crystal, and requested them to move my line to Telkom.

Seems this was done by the 24th of April. Now I see there is an extra line item on my Telkom bill, named DSL Fast, with the rest of the line being 012667XXXX 09 May 15 - 08 Jun 15 R144.74. The amount including VAT is R165.00.

So I proceed to Google Telkom DSL Fast, which brings me to this page: http://www.telkom.co.za/sites/athom...ernetandbroadband/adsl/&productname=Fast ADSL. There is a section that says:
Monthly rental fees:
Line rental: R189.00
ADSL rental: R165.00

Does this mean that they're charging me for the ADSL Rental item, instead of the Line Rental item, and is this a mistake? It's bothering me, because although my line still works, I'm afraid they'll cut me off due to their mistake. Any recommendations as to the route I must follow to rectify this, if needed?

For clarity, I just want to rent an ADSL line from them - no ADSL services, contracts etc.

Thanks in advance.

Billing is correct, ADSL rental is in addition to physical line rental.

I don't understand? I'm not renting ADSL from them, just the ADSL line... Landline I've had a lot longer obviously, but that's a different amount.

It appears correct. You pay Telkom for your telephone line service, adsl line rental (basically a DSL enablement on the same line) and your ISP account (capped or uncapped or whatever). Telkom is generally month to month with no contracts unless you opt for a package or modem etc with them.

You need to pay for the phone line as well as the adsl line (even though they are the same line)

Then on top of that you pay for your adsl data, which you will pay to your isp.

Just to clear things up, I am fully aware of the components I NEED to pay.
- Voice line
- ADSL Line
- ADSL Service

My confusion is that I seem to be billed for:
- Voice Line
- ADSL Service X2 (1 with Crystalweb, another with Telkom)

As per the link I provided. And I don't want to be cut off. So, are you guys telling me it's right that they're charging me for an ADSL Service - above the one I'm already getting from Crystalweb - and no actual line rental?

Just to be clear your telephone line service will always be Telkom. Your DSL line rental can be Telkom or any ISP (the ISP manages your line but Telkom ultimately provision it). Your ISP account can be with Telkom or any ISP. In some cases Telkom bundle all three and in some cases an ISP may bundle the DSL line rental and Data.

Read my clarification above - as stated there, I am not asking what I should be paying, but rather trying to avoid a Telkom Billing fcckup screwing me over and causing them to cut off my internet - the line, in other words.

Hope my above post makes sense.

What service did you purchase from Crystal Web?

Previously the cost of your ADSL "line" was bundled in your Afrihost data account, you requested they move the line to Telkom probably so that Crystal Web can then take over the ADSL "line" and provide a bundled data package. In the interim Telkom will bill you for ADSL rental, if you are moving your ADSL rental to CW you will see a credit on your next Telkom account for ADSL rental.

Exactly. But in my first post, I provided evidence that they're billing me for data and not the ADSL line.

And I don't have a bundle with Crystalweb, just home premium uncapped.

If you are paying CW for DSL rental and the data account then yes, you've been double billed for the ADSL rental.

Confirm your rental date with CW.

If doubled, phone 10210 and select billing / accounts and log a dispute and request them to credit your account for the double billing.

Hope Premium Uncapped. The line will be staying at Telkom, or at least that's the intention.

ADSL Fast = your adsl line rental - there is no data with this - it's an access rental

So you will pay Telkom Phone Line Rental to Telkom, ADSL rental to Telkom and Home Premium Uncapped to CW.

And I have no line rental anywhere that I can see, as it was cancelled with Afrihost. So I haven't paid for any lines, but for 2 different ISPs' data instead. This is a Telkom issue though. Crystalweb I paid for a service and got it.

Does anybody know who to contact at Telkom to get me billed for a line and not the data? I don't want to call everyone and be transferred all day.

I hope you're right, because the amount they charged me is the amount for the ADSL Data account (R165.00), and not the price they have stated for the line (R189.00). Because I don't really have the energy to deal with these people.

No, Telkom has billed you for the POTS line (voice) and for the ADSL 2Mbps line rental (Telkom Fast). CW has billed you for the data portion.

That would appear correct, then.

Your Telkom service line rental = R189
Your Telkom DSL fast DSL line rental = R165

No, that is not a data account, it's the ADSL line rental.

The billing is correct if Crystal Web are only providing the data portion of your ADSL, why not query this directly from the CW home page via live chat (scroll to the bottom):
