That specific call sounds like those people who try to sell you their share trading software. They tell you this great story of how they teach people to invest directly on the JSE without brokers. Then they market the software to you which costs like R15k or something. They have offices in Durbanville and have been trading under a few different company names.

I cut them off asap because hearsay is they get credits for the longer they keep you on the line.
It's also just people trying to earn a living though.

It is, which is why I'm never impolite. My standard reply about a minute into the call...
I'm sorry, I'm really not interested, but thank you for your call.

She/he says thanks for your time and then I hang up. If they're still giving me a sales pitch after that, then I just hang up.

A couple of methods employed before:
1. Yes please, let's meet... and give the wrong address. Don't show up (slightly different to GreGorGy's method)
2. Pitch your own company instead and hang up after the pitch with "Thank you for listening and have a good day"
3. Tell them to hold a moment, give the phone to a colleague with "Sorry, hear is the person you are looking for". Colleague does the same and had over to another and so on
4. Complain to them about the state of the country/housing/infrastructure/crime/etc and end with "Thank you for listening and have a good day"
5. Leave the phone on the table (same as maumau)

First I tell them that I'm not interested, if they persist I pretend that I'm also a salesperson of something random and try and sell it to them. I actually got a call yesterday and the guy didn't want to end the call I then asked him if he is interested in calenders since that is what I sell. (not really) but these were special 2013 calendars for an excellent never to be repeated price. Gave him the whole spiel about how much he could save and how it exactly like a 2014 calender and the best bit was that if he kept it for a few years till 2019 it would be perfect to use as the days would be the exact same and he would never get a calender in 2019 at this massively discounted price in 2014. He just burst out laughing and told me to have good day and good luck with the calender sales. ;)

Inform them that they are in contravention of the communications act (I actually think it might be the ECT act) and that they are bound by law to give you the details of their superior and the person who referred you.
It is against the law for them to harass you like they are doing.

I read the more persistent ones poetry.

This kind of poetry:

Oh freddled gruntbuggly,
Thy micturations are to me
As plurdled gabbleblotchits on a lurgid bee.
?

If so, you do realise that you could become number-one suspect in unexplained deaths of telesales people, no?

Nothing like a bit of Vogon poetry to discourage call backs. :)

Hi, once a week this company phones me , and the person says, we got your number as a reference from someone. [they don't want to say who].
Then they start to tell me how the banks is getting rich, and with their share program I can become rich too. Then , sir what time tomorrow can one of our agents come and see you, 8, 10, 12 etc, etc. They don't seem to understand the word, No I am not interested. Then when they make the appointment, I let them make it any time, then tell them I am in another city. then a simple , we will phone you next time.
What should I tell them? , something friendly , not root.

I cannot block their call, coming from different numbers.

A simple "fsck off" will suffice

1) Never answer phone calls from private numbers. If its an important call, they will leave a message.
2) Ask them where/how did they acquire your number. (Always some bull**** story)
3) Tell them to remove your number from their database immediately and to stop calling about unsolicited offers.
4) Tell them that the next time you receive a phone call from them you will inform your lawyer and action will be taken.

I don't get spammed much any more after I started doing this. And you can do it in a very calm manner, not to upset the poor soul that has to phone 1000's of irritable people every day.

I saw or should I say heard this on a whackhead Simpson clip I think.

Act like a member of the SAP. Tell them they have just called a crime scene and ask them how they knew the deceased? How did they get his details? Tell them you are going to need them to come in to make a statement regarding their relationship with the deceased.

Also,

Whackhead had a clip to play for telesales ppl. Maybe get that and be ready to play it back to them when they call.

tell them you have no interest in their ponzy scheme, and if they continue to harass you, you will speak to your lawyer about such.

This usually gets them to hang up rather quickly:

1. Ask them if they mind if you record the conversation
2. If they say yes, ask them if they could state their full name and if they can confirm that they are a duly appointed agent of the company they claim to be from.
3. Ask them to provide you with the company FSB registration number.

I have never had anybody stick around after that, but you get the idea.....
