Ihave an MTN package for 3g but am only getting gprs.I have spoken to the helpdesk a number of times and they assure me that Im in a 3g area and they will look into it.So far after a week it still only connects gprs.
Im using a Motorola v3x as a modem.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
Does you phone log on to 3G at all? What indicator do you see on the handset when in standby mode and not connected as a modem to the PC.

Hi
Thats the problem, you need to set the port speed higher. 3g connects at 364kbps. Your post speed is restricting it.
Start
Control Panel
Network Connections
Right Click on the icon that is present for the mobile connection
Select Properties
On General Tab you will see configure select it
Then set the max speed to 460800
Select Ok

Then connect again

Regards

I have the same problem in Bloemfontein, since getting my Nokia E61 months ago I have on the very rare occasion (perhaps 3 times) been successful in getting 3G-ish speeds. Mostly it is just GPRS speeds even though I have full signal and the phone shows a 3G icon. I rarely get download speeds over 7 kbytes/sec.

I believe MTN sucks when it comes to 3G.

I agree they suck,so its gprs or nothing they dont seem too worried about it.
