Good morning.

Can you please suggest a Gigabit switch? We have a server in office with 5 machines, server included? I don't need the very expensive ones. A couple of hundred rands will do. Also PCI cards for the 5 machines.

Thank you very much so long.

I bought a 8-port Cisco 1 Gigabit switch a few days ago. Haven't installed it yet, but it seems like a nice piece of kit.

I imported it, the cost was quite resonable (say, R800, depending on how you allocate shipping).

We also use a similar D-Link at work, it also works fine. Can't remember what it cost, but it wasn't much.

i have 2 d-link units...

they can maintain GBE over multiple ports ( ie very fast backplane speed )

they only cost about R400

they are unmanaged though.....

Oh and they have real crappy power supplies. I replaced both of mine with 12v ( battery backed ) psu's and havent had a problem since...

Im using the D-Link DGS-1008D, http://www.dlink.ca/products/?pid=230

Has not given me one hassle since I have had it, performs well, backed up 4 machines onto my servers RAID drives over the network at the same time, each machine hit gigabit speeds since my server was running teamed network cards plugged into this switch...
