Hi

I was using a Linksys router, never had a problem, and all of a sudden (there hasn't been lightning or anything) I can't connect anymore - the DSL light blinks and won't stay on.

Then I connect the line to my old Billion router and it connects fine.

So i thought ok this Linksys router must be broken.

Then I bought a new D-Link router. It gave me the same problem!! DSL light just blinks.

I took the D-Link router and the Linksys router to my neighbour's house, and they both work!

Please help? What could be the problem?

Have you tried signing in to the router with your ISP Account details?

for linksys router: http://192.168.1.1 in your browser, and for D link 192.168.0.1

Check that VPI / VCI are set properly on the router.

VPI = 8
VCI = 35

Also check that ENSCAPULATION is set to LLC.

This should solve syncing issues.

I have configured the router with my ISP details, its not even detecting that there is a DSL line, never mind internet connection

Thanks guys, I check that it is these settings, still the DSL light blinks as if I haven't plugged in my telephone line i.e. when I unplug the telephone line it blinks the same way.

I took these 2 routers to my neighbour's house and they both work perfectly - this rules out fault with router or settings.

So this means my line can't take these routers? How's that possible? How do I explain this to Telkom????????????

Your line quality must have dropped below a threshold these Linksys modems can't handle.

Try using the phone cable that came with your new dlink modem. I've had a dlink a while back that uses different pins to normal phone devices.

How do I explain that to Telkom? I phoned them several times, I went over to a Telkom branch too, explained this a few times and they say that the line is working, and they refuse to send a technician over.
