Hi All,

I hope someone can help me here. To my joy, i managed to get my new rig internals:

Intel Pentium D 3.0Ghz with Virtualisation (Whatever) CPU
Foxxcon motherboard with NVIDIA chipset, SLI, etc etc etc..
2 x Hymax 512 DDR2 667Mhz Ram, installed in Dual DDR config.
Gainward Geforce 7600GT Golden Sample 256MB (Exactly the same as my first card) ie. I now have 2 of these cards exactly the same... installed in SLI

I installed the SLI config chip on the board....
I installed the 2 cards as per instruction
I installed the bridge (MIO) whatever
I installed the bracke that holds the bridge/cards

I installed SuSE 10.1 without any problems, although it did say it was loading chipset drivers or something, took about 1 min to get to the install screen etc, but otherwise, went without problem. Did this because in my haste to upgrade, i didnt backup data with old board etc.

Backed up data to spare pc, tried to install XP and after prompt "Press any key to boot... yada yada.." it goes to "Setup is inspecting your system config... yada..." and then screen goes blank, screen light stays green (indicating system hasnt crashed (IMHO)) but stays there. nothing but black screen. after 10 minutes of waiting, i hit some keys and got the beeps (short) as if system was overloaded)

I am now currently installing Vista... Without any problems,..

This is frustrating coz I want to play all my games with my new BOM system, but XP just wont go.

So I say, if linux & Vista install ok, it cant be anything I with my limited tech knowledge can identify.

Anyone have any clues/ideas?

Pls help, wanna see PREY, GRAW, ETC in full blown glory

Thanx

This may be a solution.

1. Update the BIOS.
2. Take the BIOS defaults.
3. Only install the hardware you need to get XP installed.
4. Fetch the latest motherboard and if need be SATA drivers. Make the disks and start the XP install.

You might probably need to create a SATA driver disk, or use your supplied one. Also make sure you use a Xp Service Pack 2 installation cd.

Check if your virus protection is enabled in the bios this usually stops windows from installing

It does...

But ok, here was the problem:

It wasnt hardware (and I would advocate for foxconn) it was effectively microsux (microsoft XP SP2)

Like I said SuSE 10.1 & Vista installed no prob, but windows xp would just die, the 'problem' is that the NVIDIA drivers for the RAID controller was not included on the XP cd, this is of course due to evolution & the fact that foxconn is a modern board.

I eventually opted for XP x64 as a solution (due to the system being 64 bit) and to my relief, the 64 bit XP had the drivers necessary. now the problem is that I am running 64 bit XP, and it has issues (I believe we arent ready for 64 bit, or 64 bit hasnt been as predominant as it should be.. yet) But I will shoot of to Novell this week to fetch my 64 bit SUSE 10.1.

Thankfully most of my games & software run.

There are no misconceptions about the quality of the foxconn board I have, it is superb & offers more options & bells & whistles than a russian circus.

I would recommend to anyone who is on a budget (R1000-00) for a decent board for the 64 bit community. This is not a entry level board either or a cheapie, go look or call a dealer and ask for a entry level 64 bit board, and compare prices.

Anyway, problem sorted, thanx for advice & help all.
