OK so I am an idiot because I've been searching on my own with absolutely zero success when I should have asked for help here.

I am looking for a brass swivel tap fitting - you know the t-fitting bit at the base of the spout of a mixer tap that allows the spouy to swivel from side to side.

You do get swivelly plumbing fittings that would work IF they continued to swivel after fitting, but they don't. I just can't believe that in all the different irrigation and plumbing fittings there in the world, no-one makes that particular part or a similar part for some other purpose that can be used in the same way. (thinking laterally here).

HELP!

the part I'm looking for is the bit at the bottom of the spout, that allows it to swivel while connecting to the crosspipes from the taps.

You'll need to replace the entire fitting, unfortunately...

Go to any plumbing store, Builders, Chamberlains, etc. and ask them...

And it will depend on the manufacturer whether you will find any spares...

Good luck, you'll need it.

They always swivel, you might be installing it incorrectly.

Send a picture of your actual spout base together with the o-ring,should even be a white one at the highest notch.

I'm (or rather my builder) is building me pretty copper fittings, bathroom is magnificent so far, couldn't afford a butler sink for the kitchen just yet, but wanted the same brass fittings in the kitchen in advance of getting one later.

No and yes, but think I'm giving up.

been there done that, if you don't get blank looks, they say 'no such thing'. Finally spoke to an antique plumbing supplier in JHB this am and ... there is no such thing. I can buy a brass spout with the swivel fitting ... for the 'small' sum of R1 900!!!! I'm going with a single tap for the moment.

I don't have one, I'm constructing a tap from scratch.

If it looks like this then it should swivel as long as you don't let it sink in further than the white limiting ring. 20161005_102246.jpg

The only thing I can think of in your case is a Conex fitting that is not completely tightened until the compression o-ring is fixed solid, maybe have a ring or something to limit how far the nut can go onto the male thread so that it does not go completely down when you tighten it.
