I recently got an I-mate Jasjar and ran into a strange issue, which i think alot of people run into [and maybe didn't figure out]. So i'm wondering if anyone know of a "trick" of whether it's a hardware limitation or maybe something fixable with a firmware upgrade?
Short detail:
It takes the phone at least 6 seconds to "wake up" out of suspend mode . This means if it's suspended when receiving an incoming call you will only hear
the first ring 6+ seconds later [yet it is actually on it's 10th+ ring for the caller].
Interim/Permanent solution : Disabling all suspending functions .
PS: Suspend mode "looks" exactly like when your backlight turns off [which is another seperate settings]. So you can't tell if your PPC is in suspend or "backlight turned off" mode..[or is there]?
Long detail:
The pocket pc is a phone as well. Now normal phones you turn on, and you leave it at that, the screen will turn off after awhile but the phone is still "on".
Now my pocket pc got this 3rd state, similar to the windows "suspend" mode, where it turns off the cpu ,but it's not "off" [you don't need to boot it, in other words].
There's settings after how much idle time it should go into that state, and there's a button too. There's also obviously the usual settings regarding turning off the backlight etc etc.
Certain events "wake" the phone up out of the "suspend" state like an incoming call. Now here's my problem:
Just like windows takes awhile to get out of suspend state, this phone does as well. So guess what happens?
1. Incoming call [person calling hears ringing on his side]
2. My phone STARTS to wake up.
3. First thing to wake is backlight after 3+ seconds, so you can SEE a call is incoming...if i'm fortunate to have the phone right in front of me, i will see this..mostly it wont.
4. After another 2 or so seconds, the audio functions will wake up, and it will start ringing/vibrating..also only then it will show who is calling.
So end result? I miss all my calls! Because on the first ring i hear, it's the 7th+ ring for the caller.
My interim solution is to disable all these suspend functions, so my phone will never enter this state. Basically the screen turns off like normal phones and that's it.
I also never use the "off" button, which basically suspends the phone [you can't actually turn this phone off, you need to pull out the battery to do this]. You turn the "phone" aka GSM reception off via software [aka flight-mode] to REALLY turn off the phone part [like you turn on and off bluetooth/wifi].
Now the disabling of suspending works, the phone will ring immediately no problem. But it seems so silly to have such a suspend feature which is suppose to save ALOT of battery power and not being able to use it???
