Zimbabwe's army and police are poised to get the biggest chunks of the 2020 national budget, which finance minister Mthuli Ncube has revised to far exceed the initial ceiling of ZWL$28bn (about US$1.77bn or R26.1bn).
This has been revealed in a document produced this week by the minister, titled “2020 Pre-Budget Parliamentary Consultation Meetings; October 30 to November 4 2019”.
According to the document, the defence forces require ZWL$25bn, while home affairs requires ZWL$32bn.
Since Zimbabwe's disputed July 2018 polls, the army and police have been central in suppressing protests from the opposition as well as workers' unions. The opposition has vowed to keep putting pressure on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s establishment, while workers continue to give it headaches. As a result, allocating more funds to the security forces is strategic, say analysts.

Scared of a coup.
Simple as that.
Its not like politicians care for the welfare of the country and/or its citizens.
The only thing politicians care about is themselves - **** the citizens.
Oddly correct.
The Zim army are already powerful and let's remember they're the ones who removed Mugabe and recalled The Crocodile from exile for installation as president. So they're the sort of guys you want to keep happy. It is kinda the symptom of a failed country as well that when money is tight you pay the guys with guns first up.

But wait, there's a solution to inflation, just freeze prices and wages: https://www.fin24.com/Economy/Afric...price-freeze-as-workers-go-on-strike-20191106
Zimbabwe is considering freezing incomes and prices as it battles to contain runaway inflation which has eroded household incomes and left many employees unable to afford transport costs to get to work.

Zimbabwe's month-on-month inflation stood at 17.7% in September 2019 while year-on-year inflation, which is no longer officially published, is estimated to have reached 353% in the same month.

At the last official count, year-on-year inflation stood at 175.6%, before Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube banned publication of annual inflation figures saying they were not a true reflection of prices on the ground.

You'd think they'd rather have spent it all on a Vibranium bunker to prevent the Mugabe zombie from rising and beating them with an electric plug like the auntie likes to do?
