Great Xmas news - maybe this is a sign of more good things to come?

Expired disc means trouble for cop

An expired car licence disc led to a police captain being arrested in Swartruggens on a drink-drive charge Wednesday.

The North West Department of Transport, Roads and Community Safety said in a statement the officer was arrested at a roadblock on the N4 at 5pm.

"When the traffic police stopped him at a road block, they discovered that his vehicle licence disc had expired and ordered him out of the vehicle for more inspection.

"They became suspicious that he could be drunk when he became arrogant to the traffic officers.

"The officers then used a breathalyser to check if he was not drunk and found that his alcohol was 0,81 and well above the 0,24 permitted limit. He was immediately arrested and detained."

He was detained at the Swartruggens police station pending his appearance before court at the Swartruggens Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Good. I thought the limit was 0.05 or is that measured differently?

Going through the road block on Jan Smuts road today, I couldn't help but wonder how much bribe money was changing hands. Pretty sad when we think these kinds of things about our law enforcement, huh? :(

0.05 is the blood alchohol limit, ie done from a blood test.

0.24 is the limit as measured by a breathalyser (breath alcohol) which would be the equivalent of a 0.05 blood alcohol level, if a blood test was done.

Just remember that at a roadblock. As far as I know the breathalyser still has to be backed up by a blood test, so request that if u just on the limit.

But better still, try not drink and drive. Get someone to drive you if you have too much
