Judging by the tweets after his fake attack I would have thought he was some kind of star tbh. I doubt American politicians care for no name celebrities.

To be fair, the show is very popular, especially among African-Americans. The stars are Terence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, both of whom are pretty high profile.

Also, Jussie Smollett is gay in real life and plays a gay character, so his profile in the gay community is pretty big.
