Police to enforce coronavirus restrictions

Police minister Bheki Cele has warned that police will proactively monitor and enforce coronavirus regulations and restrictions in the country.

President Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced restrictions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes prohibiting gatherings of more than 100 people.

The Cooperative Governance Ministry has added additional restrictions, which include that pubs and clubs would be limited to 50 patrons at a time.

The sale of alcohol at bars, restaurants, and shebeens is also not allowed to continue past 18:00.

I'm actually speechless. You'd swear this was the 80s in the midst of the AIDS panic mixed with the enforcement of Dompas laws!

They cant even do their current job properly
That's because their ordinary job requires effort, application and skill, and is invisible to most people.

This job they'll do well because it's an opportunity to strut in public and throw their weight around. Such a lovely public show of power to barge into a public place in full body armour and yell "Get up! Move! Get out". Sends the all-important message that the cops are doing their job after all. But bugger the real job of fighting crime and protecting people from criminals - that's too much sweat, and people don't see it.

They arent going to enforce anything.
The beaches have been closed here for a few days and a quick look at the webcams shows people merrily strolling about.
The police force only goes after soft targets these days.

I am quite OK with this, as long as it includes the bar in Parliament.

Here's a novel thought: How about said police actually go out and prevent violent crimes which cause citizens to end up in hospitals. In doing so, they help free up beds for those not coping with COVID-19 illness and then we wouldn't need a god-damn lockdown.
