Poll : iMessage activation failure on MTN ported numbers to TM

If you ported to Telkom Mobile from MTN does iMessage activate on your iPhone via your CELL PHONE NUMBER , i am not referring to your Apple ID .

Telkom Mobile is in denial to this problem , hopefully this thread will draw more attention to the problem .

This also happened to my gf when she ported from Vodacom to TM.
To make it worse, the hidden SMS's to the UK to activate iMessage which is meant to be paid by the carrier, appears on her bill.
TM have not set up their message centres correctly

I recall reading on Telkom Mobile's website last week that any number ported to Telkom mobile can send out international SMS but cannot receive. Maybe thats the reason for iMessage not activating

That would explain it!! It need to receive the confirmation message from the UK

I was able to send and receive international sms , but imessage will not activate

Yeah, I just ported over from CellC - no iMessage at all. Just stuck on 'waiting for activation'. Glad I'm on prepaid, this telkom mobile venture may be short lived..

And what is the technical issue behind this that has so far eluded our best and brightest?

I am happy to report that imessage finally activated via my cell number. Iphone 5 ios 7.06
Took a few seconds to activate.
