So my 7 year old VW polo 1.2 TSI went for it's annual service. While it is only on 65k, they were doing the 95k service at an official VW stealership (FWIW: service cost 4.2k )

One of the issues the car alerted me to in the last week, was low coolant which I intentionally did not mention to them as I thought it would be topped up as part of service.

During service they tell me the water pump is leaking and a new one WITHOUT labour costs 6k.

I told them to hold off. Can a water pump be that expensive on such an old common car?

I did a Google search for them , and some local websites say it costs between 1.5k to 2.5k but I'm not sure.

My car has been super reliable and to be frank its way past its warranty period so I don't need to take it to VW anymore (and most probably won't) and I don't want to be cheap for the sake of being cheap.

Anyone offer any advice here? Was thinking, that Goldwagen could be considered reputable and can go there to see when I get time

Thx

Yes, go to Goldwagen get a pump and get someone else to fit it, it's a mechanical thing and any good mechanic can do it.

Not sure about Polos but with the cars I've owned the water pumps have been buried so deep in the engine bays that the labour is as much as the part. Can vouch for Goldwagen.
