Golf gti too expensive and i like the polo 6 shape and loooove the look and performance of this particular model. Was hoping someone here owned one and could give me some feedback. Ill most prob end up buying it. As long as its under FULL warranty. Wnt drive it a day out of warranty lol. Phoned a few guys advertising them online and seems all the models after 2013 seems to be fine mechanically

If you want an auto, get the Golf 7 TSI with DSG. But like the others have said before, you already made your mind up, so just go sign the papers.
Drove one of these over the weekend. Was hauling major as$, and it was composed and didn't feel out of place, even with that panoramic sunroof open. Would definitely buy if it was just slightly more reliable.
Anyone here have/had one of these? How was the ownership experience?
No Mechatronics (Transmission) issues?Owned one for 5 years
- Ignition issues
- 3rd piston go boom (common issue)
- coilpack
Sold it just before warranty went. Nice car, quick. but boring and wouldnt recommend the 1.4 twincharged motor, even if the supercharger whine sounds cool

Had the polo GTi engine went bang out of warranty had to fight tooth and nail to get VWSA to cover some of the repair bill. Got it fixed traded it in and got the Golf 7 GTiI would rather have a Golf GTi given the choice, the twincharged 1.4 Polo GTi was not one of VW's finest GTi's.

Besides the twincharged 1.4 being very hit and miss, the gearbox is also known to be quite problematic.
I've had my fare share of DQ200 issues and it is not cheap to fix.
With the DSG I assume? Has ownership been a pleasant experience?Had the polo GTi engine went bang out of warranty had to fight tooth and nail to get VWSA to cover some of the repair bill. Got it fixed traded it in and got the Golf 7 GTi
Golf 7 GTi is a completely different car wouldn’t touch another polo GTI
Agreed 100%. Explains why they ditched it immediately for a normal turbocharged engine on the facelift. They didn't even wait for the next generation.I would rather have a Golf GTi given the choice, the twincharged 1.4 Polo GTi was not one of VW's finest GTi's.
Did you have it from new? How many kilos did you put on the car before letting it go?Owned one for 5 years

DSG box. No issues in the three years that I owned it.With the DSG I assume? Has ownership been a pleasant experience?

demo model, had from 7000kms. owned until 93000kms. sold just before the 100 000kms warranty (took out 5 yr plan).Did you have it from new? How many kilos did you put on the car before letting it go?
The engine had a lot of potential and at least one of it's issues was experienced in many VAG engines of the same period, the dreaded piston ring land issue that saw excessive oil consumption. One of the issues with the twincharged engine specifically was the supercharger clutch which would fail leading to the supercharger not being active and the car having less low down torque. The replacement was straight forward but expensive as at least the waterpump was part of the same assembly meaning it took some time and effort to replace with a lot having to be removed, replaced, refitted, etc. I thought they used the DQ250 gearbox and although there are still mechatronics failures it is nothing like the issues experienced in the VAG PQ35 platform.
Mine ate oil. it was "within spec." even the turbo only 1.4 back then did.... But to VAG's credit, their newer engines are much better. Our tiguan had one topup in 4 years
I still maintain that 'within specification' is complete and utter BS, I have never owned any car that used a noticeable amount of oil in a short period of time, perhaps my air cooled cars but that is to be expected. VAG's cars from that time period had design faults and they know it, the R40k engine rebuilds done by dealerships under warranty if you pushed them hard enough attest to that.
