Wrong, OPC uses 4 pot calipers, Polo uses normal brakes.
OPC brakes are atlease 3 times more than what a Polo brakes would cost.

The Astra OPC's brake pads are R690 for the fronts. I would think that the Astra's brakes would be similar or better than the Corsa's. Very, very far from R20k for a set.

Thank you! Please tell me where you found the local pricing so quickly.

I'll tell you one thing it's a pain in the ass to find them.

But here you go...might be 4-pot but still only two pads per calliper.

R500.

i never made the 20k comment, but im sure the Corsa uses a more expensive pad than the Polo from the dealers.
Some OPC uses Brembos, if so, thats expensive brakes.
Lol at the 4 pot, 2 pads per caliper comment...

Did a google and came upon this online parts store for SA where you can order the bits from.
Couldn't find the current model Corsa OPC's pads' prices and they only had for the model ending 2009. Those were R500 a set.

Brembo brake system DOES NOT equal Brembo pads.

Doesn't even equal Brembo discs, it's just the calipers generally.

And even then it's nothing as special as the real deal and just there for branding to make Hothatch owners feel amazing about themselves.

ATE probably makes the same parts for other cars with the same performance without the name you pay for.

Presumably the Polo also uses ATE like the big brother. Just because it's Brembo doesn't necessarily make it better or for that matter more expensive.

Replacing the entire system in any car is expensive but almost never necessary.

The figure I gave, was what an ex-colleague was quoted by a dealership. Apparently it's because they are Brembos, they seem to attract a special price. I've also seen people quoted more than R5k just to replace the front pads.

Not saying it's a given, or even a standard, but it has happened. YMMV.

Stealerships.

I suspect thought that 5k is for discs and pads and not just pads.

Otherwise I'm opening an Opel specialist brake shop tomorrow and charging half price to still make 100% profit.

Hmm same one I found but I could only spot the rears and had no luck for my Golf.

Maybe I was looking for the Polo then.

No, I totally agree with you, I found it ridiculous. As do I find this commonality of brakes no longer being covered by the service plan. I remember the Golf V GTI covering brakes under the service plans back then...

Forgot that I'd even started this thread :D

Eventually took one for a test drive and everything was nice. Performance was great, so was the fuel economy, the DSG 'box, the equipment levels etc. But I just wasn't "feeling" it. Soon after it became fairly common anyway, as VWs tend to do.

Thank goodness I waited the extra 18 months for my current car. It may not be as fast or as fuel economical, but it makes me glee with excitement every time I get behind the wheel.

EDIT: Didn't notice the "not as fast" part. Nevermind.
