Hi folks,

I have been waiting for this e-mail for sometime now, but the good news is that pre-orders for the Popcorn Hour C-200 are opening on the 27th of August (12am, Pacific Standard Time) - that is around 9am SA time, if my time zone calculations are correct.

This is good news. This is the device that I've been waiting for and I am sure to order one.

if you have a partner who is also the finance committee, I'd suggest that you order it and ask for forgiveness later. :)

Hello Valued Customer,

We are pleased to inform you that we will be launching C-200 for public
order on 27th August 2009 (12:00am PST).
Please visit http://www.popcornhour.com on 27th August 2009 (12:00am PST)
onwards to begin the ordering process.
Your credit card will only be charged when the product is available and
ready for shipping.
We estimate that the upcoming batch will be available around 3rd of
September 2009.
Depending on which batch your order falls into, your credit card will be
charged accordingly.

Any shipment status update will be announced in our forum thread
http://www.networkedmediatank.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=68

Please note that Google Checkout will perform an "Auth" operation on your
credit card when you place the order.
Google will hold the sum listed solely to confirm that your credit card is
valid.
Popcorn Hour will not have made any charges to your credit card yet at
this point.

Thank you for your support,
The Popcorn Hour Sales Team

Well its $299... so if imported directly.. prob around the R3k mark..

if sold in this country.. my guess is in the R4.5k range

I checked the shipping cost on the Popcorn Hour website to SA for the A-110 which was $45.

My guess is that the shipping for the C-200 will be around the same if not a few $ more. So converting to Rand.
$299 + $50 = $349 * R8 = R2792. I'm sure that we'll be charged VAT when coming through customs, so add 14% and the figure is. R3182.88. I'd imagine that since this is defined as a "computer", we won't get charged duties on it.

So, if the local guys cannot do it for R3200, then I'll order off the PCH website instead (that is if I am prepared to take the risk that if it is damanaged, that I cannot simply take it back - well, I assume that is).

Add another 10% at least to your price ipodmusicman...

Customs will work on a formula of

Value + 10% + 14%Vat. (from what I've seen in the past)

You are dead WRONG there is now a 28% duty on these devices as they are considered luxury items.

Should be $299 + $50 = $349 * 8 = R2792 + 28% duties = R3573 + 14% VAT = R4074

This model supports playback of Blu-Ray ISO's

You do not pay duties and VAT on the shipping only the value of the actual goods.
