Hi,

Is it just me or has anybody else popped an Ethernet (onboard for now) port yet?

I have a ASUS mobo, and I have just popped my second port! I have given up sending it in for warranty cause it is a mission to get the board out and change fans and wait for a few days!

I am now running with a mecer gigabit card and haven't had any hassles for now yet!

While I am busy, any got any suggestions on how to get Half Life 2 installed with iBUST??????

Thanks guys....

Deanos, welcome to MyADSL :).

Very odd that your builtin mobo ethernet keeps blowing...I have not experienced that [luckily], was your iBurst UTD connected to that specific ethernet port?

Yup.... I have been having some major problems with iBust... While d/ling, I would watch the signal, and every so often, it drops to 0% for about 3 seconds, then seams to come alive again... Weird stuff... I have had bad speeds, and still have...

Not sure of what to do anymore... I have been browsing through some of the iBust forums and it seams that I am not the only unhappy user...

I wish I could just get it to work like it should... Unfortunatly I have hit my cap for the month, but I sometime can't even open an HTML mail...

OH Well... Any ideas on the HL2 install with iBust?

Happened a few times with me (6 to be exact). Mostly with Eurocom notebooks. Luckily it hasn't happened to my Motion tablet yet (only 1 pcmcia currently taken by iburst) otherwise I'd be in a spot of bother ;)

I'm thinking it must be some kind of power spike or short to cause a lan port from not working anymore. As for the iBurst UTD loosing signal for a sec or 2 that's kind of normal....happens to me mostly at night. The only time it should be a problem is when your latency spikes very high coinciding with a signal loss. For me this has only been a problem once......but was fixed within 3 days.

Do you think the UTD can cause this to happen?

Deanos... I realy doubt that the UTD is causing your ethernet ports to blow, although it is possible. I have unfortunatly had a port blow on my gigabyte nF4 mobo, but luckily rectron replaced it immediatly good luck with the port :)

That's surprising for Rectron... LOL!

It could only be the UTD, cause that is all that get's plugged in there...

Did you have your UTD in when it blew?

Deanos, just a thought, I was blowing ethernet ports a few years ago when I had one of my PC's downstairs on a different power phase.
After moving all the PCs' to the same circuit the problem went away.

This might not be your problem but do you have single or 3 phase power connected to your house?

I asked since it was using different phases that killed my ethernet ports as I already stated, and if you had the same problem I would suggest that you try using only one of the phases for all thats connected to your PC equipment.

Since in your last reply you say you have single phase then it does not apply to you.

Anyway the info might just be of some use to somebody else reading this thread.

Me I blame that piece of trash Asus motherboard <spit>
No offence intended towards Deanos, but I have only ever had bad experiences with Asus.

We had 2 switch ports, a jet direct and 4 eathernet ports blow over a six month period, so I called in the cabeling company. Thay found that the entire lan was floating at 160V.

Apparently there was a faulty earth circut someware and the LAN was acting as the earth return for the rest of building.

As MrH said, putting all the computer equipment on one phase with a seperate earth spike solved the problem. Never trust the electrican, they don't understand data cabling.

No offence taken... To be honest I have always used ASUS mobo's, but the ports started blowing ever since I got iBust!

Does anybody know whether you should use a crossover cable or straight cable to connect the UTD direct to PC? I read somewhere on this forum and the dude mentioned a X-over, I just cannot find that thread anymore....

Anyhoo, I will see how long my Mecer Gigabit card lasts...

If u have a half decent NIC it won't matter, as it will be detected automatically. But I'm not sure otherwise. I use a plain patch cable....but connected to my router which detects what cable it is and configures it's self accordingly.

Thanks M8... But If the UTD can use either cable, which one is better?

My 2 cents.

Main problem is filters at power suply. If one of such units loose earth connection it "ground" will have 50 to 200VAC against normal ground potential. Current will be limited but . . .

If you connect PC or hub or some other network device with such PSU to another network port you will have abovementioned result.

My problem

I got an Asus mb 2 days ago (a8n-sli) and when i plug the utd in the ethernet port, the computer keeps hanging after a few minutes, especially when downloading  It works perfectly fine with the usb2.0 cable though, so it must be a conflict between the mb and the utd :(
