Its a 1600 VW engine...why not? Its not like its a 6.0 Twin turbo or anything with kark fuel consumption.

Pretty much my thinking.

I know it depends on the particular engine but would I be treading a fine line in terms of overheating and unreliability?

I have no desire to have to perform roadside repairs whilst trying to get to work... the traffic and the kark on 5FM is bad enough.

BTW: quite surprised that there have been no "DO NOT DO!!!!" posts... don't you guys care about my well being chugging around in a fibreglass beetle that sits an inch or two off of the tarmac??

Good man... let me pick your brains:
Whats the fun factor in driving one of these?
I am imagining something along the lines of a beach buggy type affair with loads of squealing through even the slightest bend and a fair to decent feeling of speed given how low to the ground it is.

We've had a Triumph Spitfire Mk11 in the family for ages (no one remembers who it actually belongs to) and what I described is pretty much what its like driving that through the bends...

The one I am looking at has a ragtop - I have been warned that "it's not 100% leaky", so uhmm.. yea. :erm:

Fun factor.... well firstly you're driving a replica classic sports car so that's pretty awesome in and of itself. Secondly you can put just about any engine into those things and they rev to the skies because the chassis is so lightweight. Take any old 1.6 lr engine and you'll fly off of stops and such. And yeah being so low to the ground, you have a ton of control and feeling of speed. I dunno i guess it wouldnt be a primary car but to have in the garage yeah...i'd go for it :)

Hmmm...didnt think of that. Not sure what 1600 engine it is? If its a beetle engine...yeah, been down that road. Those engines are twitchy from my experience...but if its basically a citi golf 1600 engine...dont see why not! Should be good to go! :D
