I need some assistance from the CellC Rep.

I was on the Me&You Mobile network that runs as a VMNO on CellC. I cancelled my account with them and they informed me that all I need to do is to get a CellC sim card and go to any CellC store and get my number activated on the new sim card. I went to the store but they cannot find the number on their system and cannot activate it.

Currently if I dial my number it sayas that my number does not exist. Anyone else move from Me&You and successfully kept your number.

Would appreciate any assistance and cannot afford to lose this number.

Thanks

Your number is probably gone.Sorry to be the bearer of bad news bud,but same thing happened with my cousin when he canceled his MTN contract.

Rule one of keeping your number is never ever "cancel" an account, instead just port to prepaid.

Managed to get my number back.

The process is however not a straight forward port.

After cancelling my account with Me&You Mobile, they send the number back to Cell C where it goes into their recycled number pool. I eventually got hold of a competent call centre agent at Cell C who put a hold on the number in order for it not to be automatically assigned to a new sim card. I then went to a Cell C store and purchased a new sim card and RICA'd the sim in store. Then I called the porting division at Cell C and requested a number change where they manually enter a new number to be allocated to the sim instead of having the system generate a random number.

The issue was not to request a number activation as they cannot find the number on their system and you cannot request a port as the number is in a "do not exist" state if you call the number. the only way to get the number reassigned is to request a number change and have them manually allocate the number.

Now for the port back to to VC.
