Port to telkom mobile - How do i go about it

So i have no Telkom Shops around my area and i did read somewhere you have to do it in store... is there really no other way to go about porting to TM?

Could i not send an sms from the number i want to port from or something? The telkom site doesn't say much..

I am sure the representative is willing to help you! Do you have scan to email facilities if you do surely the rep can help you if she has proof of residence etc.

Why is proof of residence necessary if both the sim i want to port to and the sim with the number i have now are both ricca'd?

You can only Port your number by visiting the nearest Telkom Mobile store, as the number needs to be RICA registered on your name.

You must have your ID Book and Proof of Residence for RICA purposes.

And how come other networks just let you do it over the phone ?

I would have gone into my nearest store if i could... but 80Km isn't very close and nor do i want to hop into a car and drive there just to change to TM.

Is there really no other way i can go about doing this?

No. They'll give you a new SIM.

Ported my 2nd nr to Telkom today. They sent a code via Sms to the old sim, enter it on their system and tell you to wait a couple of hours. No proof of residence was needed, only id or drivers...

It is actually possible.... I did it. Bought a prepaid internet staterpack for R49 @ Edgars and Telkom Mobile rep helped me with the port when the store was unable to.
