Porting back to old network (Vodacom to Cell C to Vodacom)

Hey guys, i've searched the forums as well as checked the ICASA website trying to figure out why my porting back to Vodacom is not working.

I was on a Vodacom contract in April and converted to prepaid and was ported to Cell C by the end of April.
I tried to port at the beginning of July as well as now via the instructions online (SMS method) and i get the following reply: "Sorry, we are currently experiencing problems with your Port request. Please contact customer care on 082129 or visit your nearest Vodacom outlet."

One of the ICASA documents with regard to Mobile Number Portability (MNP) says a port request can be rejected for four reasons: 1. Ported within last 2 months; 2.Been disconnected; 3. Cellphone number is invalid; 4.You have already requested to port.

I phoned the MNP support line of Vodacom and was told that there has been no such request from my cell number (i even re-smsed while speaking to the consultant.

Does anyone have any ideas? Could one possibility be that my current cell c was rica-d wrong (the person could've made a mistake while registering my details)?

Thanks in advance

When I asked, previously, I was told had to wait 6 months before porting back.

Perhaps that is your problem?

6 months:confused: The consultant i was speaking to said two months and also the ICASA documents (abit outdated -2007) says 2 months.
Maybe i'll PM the Vodacom rep here for some clarity. Thank you for your time.

Sorry can someone tell me if there is another Vodacom rep other than Vodacom Data? Either my pms are not going through or he hasn't read my messages since Saturday

This is from my online knowledge base. It used to be 3 months. Seems it has now been shortened.

Before initiating a port request a customer should consider the following;

1. Customers should collect any messages and information stored by their current network because these can be lost during the port process.

2. Any remaining credit and unused usage allowances is not transferable to Vodacom.

3. Vodacom may not support certain services from a customer’s current network and these may not be available from Vodacom.

4. Customers will still be liable for any usage costs on their old and new network prior to and after the porting time.

5. Porting does not relieve customers of any contractual obligations with their existing service provider.

6. Customers will only be able to port to another network once every 2 months.

I've phoned the porting department again and the consultant was very helpful and got it fixed for me, I've phoned two other times and was told they couldn't helped me. Apparently my cell number wasn't 'archived with Vodacom'

Reviving an old thread because I have exactly this issue now. It has been about 3 hours since I purchased the sim card. I gather one might have to wait 24 hours for it to be RICAd before you can actually port?

This thread helped me get on the right track, but it was a slow one. Over the weekend I went to one of the larger Vodacom shops and the consultant said she can file a request to port, but it will only be processed on Monday. That's expected and fine, but when she tried to do this, she got the "number is not archived" error and I think for a moment she stared with some mild panic at the error, unsure what to do next. She didn't know what this meant, but since I remember reading it on this thread I knew that I should be able to then get it sorted out over the phone. On Sunday I decided to just hear from a small Vodacom shop in Paddocks. The guy was really helpful, immediately recognised what I was talking about and tried his luck by phoning to try to resolve it. He couldn't, but he took my number and said he will phone again later and let me know. On Monday I got a little hasty after not hearing anything yet and decided I might as well try to phone the porting support number again. Speaking the magic "number not archived" phrase seemed to do the trick instantly. The request to archive was file and I was told it would take 24 hours. This morning, some hours short of 24, I tried the portme SMS again and it was actually accepted, so I have moved on to the next step.

It seems you can port back to Vodacom within 2 months, but if you port within some other longer time frame your number might still not be archived. After a long time it happens automatically, apparently. It should also have happened when porting out, but for some reason didn't.

The error SMS said:
Sorry, we are currently experiencing problems with your Port request. Please contact customer care on 082129 or visit your nearest Vodacom outlet.

If the SMS included just a few words about the actual issue (number not archived) I think I could have got this sorted out on that same day.

Hi
I have the exact same problem at the moment. To whom can I speak to manually archive my number if possible?
I appreciate the help.
Thank you.
