I'm having the same problem with Vodacom. I have been waiting a month now to have it sorted out. The problem is as follows:

Vodacom moved numbers onto their "new system". As a result these numbers cannot be ported. The solution, I was told, is that the number needs to be moved back to the "old system". On numerous occasions I have been told that I was in the next batch, that the bosses were aware of my problem, and every other excuse you can think of. I was even told that my number had been deleted off the system, the same one that I was talking to them on. On another occasion I was told that I was still on a contract, 3 months after I changed to pre paid. And another excuse was that, in the fine print of my previous contract it stipulated that I could not port out for three months after I moved to pre paid.

Two weeks ago I spend in excess of 20 hours on the phone to Vodacom. On one occasion the operator put me on hold. 50 minutes later my battery ran out and I had to end the call. I'm still waiting. Was told that I was defiantly in the batch to be done on 16 or 17 April. I would also get an sms to say it had been done. Well its almost 3pm on 17 and nothing so far. I'm not going to hold my breath.

The short of it is they just don't care. The longer they can mess you around the longer you will put money into their pockets, at higher rates that if you were on a contract.

BEWARE: I was told by the MTN person helping me, that they can only try port requests a certain amount of times after which the number is blocked from porting for 60 days.
