Porting Problem - Whose Fault?

My Voda number was ported to MTN, iTalk.

Vodacom say the request was successfully done.
iTalk say I’m on their network.

PROBLEM:

As I write, when using my Vodacom SIM, I can make and receive calls. People calling me have complained this last weekend that sometimes, my phone number does not respond (Voice and SMS).

When using my MTN iTalk SIM, I can make outgoing calls and they reflect as my old Vodacom number on other phones. However, cannot receive calls. It goes to voicemail.

I have two phones and I inserted both SIM cards (i.e. my old Vodacom and New Ported MTN) on each phone. When I dial from my landline, it rings on the Vodacom SIM phone.

I’ve been contacting Vodacom and iTalk. Both seem to point at each other. Which side should be fixing the problem?

Same thing happened when my mother ported from MTN to Vodacom. You need to phone your recieving network, and get them to fix it - takes less than 24 hours.

So, call MTN help desk, tell them that you've recently ported to their network - but there is a problem with the port and your Vodacom sim-card is still recieving calls AND THEY MUST FIX IT! MTN must fix it, as they are the ones who put in the porting request etc.

What's basically happened, it that the port has been done- but the redirects haven't been correctly updated at the place where they redirect the calls to the relevant network.

Good luck! (Oh - and just check with Voda that your contract is closed and you wont be billed)

Thanks Broken1. I just got a call from iTalk Cellular (MTN) with a similar response to you. I've been promised a solution with next 24hrs. I' just got an SMS saying "Your request to leave the Vodacom network was approved...". Can I assume this means they will be canceling the contract?

I think you can assume they've cancelled the contract, I would just phone and check. It beats getting a bill at the end of the month for x hundred rand (in our case it would have been quite high being on a high-end contract).

I wouldn't worry normally, but one thinks that if they didnt get the port right, maybe they didnt get the cancellation right?
