Hi guys I really need some help or a link to official porting documentation so that I know what is my rights. You can read how my story started on this thread.

My scenario is as follow. I canceled my contract at Vodacom in January and told them I want to port offer to Virgin Mobile. They told me they are going to drop my number on the 28th of February. I called Virgin mobile and they told me I must call them close to the 28th so that they can request the port. So closer to the date I asked for the port me form and I faxed it back to them.

Today I called them and asked them if I will be ported. They told me the port request failed because Vodacom says the details isn't correct. The Vodacom account is in my mothers name and the new virgin account is in my name. But on the Port Me form there is a Donor Account Holder's Approval section that my mother filled out so that the number may be ported.

So tonight they will try to port me again using my mothers details as I asked. My problem is what if it fails again, what should I do to keep my number.

I don't want to pay vodacom another monthly subscription fee but I also don't want to lose my number if the port failed.

Thats why I want to know what is my options if it failed can I force Vodacom not to recycle my number but cancel my contract and ask Virgin to try the port again?

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

u can contact the tootheless regulator ICASA, they've got a consumer protection department (check the number on their site), they might take a while to respond thou.

good luck!

Yah, you see you made 'eet too deeficult eish'.;)
Just transfer it simply one account to another, no name changes or too much 'wek'.

Why not ask vodacom to port your number to vodacom prepaid. Then when thats done, port to virgin prepaid, and then just convert it to contract with virgin. I ported from vc prepaid to virgin prepaid, and then to virgin prepaid, and I didn't have problems. So now I'm a virgin, and proud of it!

*sigh*

The port didn't went through... *cry*

I'm going to try this but I'm going to rant and rave if Vodacom tries to charge me something.

I think they'll charge you for the new sim. Virgin also charge you for the sim (R55), but when you then port from virgin prepaid to contract, it's free.

You started the process wrong.
You start the port from the provider you want to port TO (VM in this case). They will complete the necessary documentation on your behalf and they will then contact your CURRENT provider (Vodacom in this case) to start the porting request.

NB: DO NOT SPEAK / MENTION / CONTACT YOUR CURRENT PROVIDER ABOUT YOU PORTING OUT FROM THEM UNTIL YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY PORTED TO THE NEW NETWORK!!

I have heard of submissions where the user that spoke to their current SP about porting away from them ... having their contract / number subsequently terminated. This effectively stops your port.

If you start your port request from the new network provider, at most, your current SP can keep on delaying the port by blocking the request with feeble attempts of not receiving enough information from the new SP, but eventually they have to let you port away.

This was my experience when I ported out of VC to MTN.
I approached MTN and they did everything.
After the port was complete from Vodacom to MTN, I only then contacted VC and canceled my contract with VC. By the time I canceled, VC was kind enough to have given me a new number on my contract. :D

You get charged for every new SIM. You don't pay for the port. Of course you pay for any new contract as well.

If this is true, then you should report it straight away to ICASA. We can't allow Vodacom to frustrate MNP in any way. If there's proof, they will get strung up by their short and curlies.:p

This is just my opinion and the impression I got while the port was going on.
I did not submit any other documents than the initial ones.
Every time I would ask MTN why it got rejected (I would get a SMS to indicate the rejection from VC), MTN would say, they don't know and that they supplied all the documentation. MTN still showed me the submissions and the reasons for the reject. Nothing changed.

Yet, after 3 retries VC allowed my port to go through.
